WTD: 1970 Firebird 400 (Manual) Throttle Bracket
Anyone consider parting with a correct manual throttle cable bracket for my ‘70 T/A? Saw that they make a repop but was hoping to find a good original. Any thoughts on the repop available?
I’m happy to send payment immediately should you have a spare at a fair price. Either way I appreciate the forum! |

do you mean the bracket that holds the cable to the manifold, or the bracket that bolts to the end of the throttle arm (and holds the end of the cable)
If the latter (I could be wrong here) there are a couple that were used.

The Firebird throttle brackets were shorter than the standard bracket used on other cars in order to clear the dropped air cleaner.

/\ that was in regards to the intake manifold mounted one.
I was trying to clarify which of the throttle brackets the OP was wanting to find. If this was about that part, I had a "wanted" thread for this exact same part, and never bought one from a member here. I found one on FB marketplace iirc, but after I received it, it was apparent that it was a repop. HERE is my "wanted" thread. I ended up sourcing one from a local.

nope.
Same bracket used for auto and stick for 1970 & 1971. These are specific only to the Firebirds, and to 4bbl setups.

I don't believe I have ever heard anyone say that specific part is anything other than dead-ringer. My search (linked earlier) was more about hoping to buy an aged one at the same price or less than the repop.

The repop Ames sells is 99% correct. Only needed a slight twist to line up and mount correctly

Thanks for the clarifying question! I meant the bracket that holds the cable to the manifold. I ended up ordering one from Parts Place but I’m unhappy with the finish on it. Looks like they used a grinder to knock down the sharp edges. Unfortunately not a lot of care was taken.
I was hoping to find a good used one. I didn’t see the link to your thread @unruhjonny. Thanks for the advice @formulabruce, I might give that one a try if I can’t find a good used one. Last edited by Goated66; 01-23-2022 at 01:03 PM. |

While that's easy enough to do, it can fade pretty fast. Have done zinc and RPM, but it can dull the finish some. For cost, maybe smooth up the surface and use some of the chrome paint ?

i wouldn't use chrome paint;
my experience is that the chrome paint is quite bright, and it typically doesn't hold up well. if anything since the zinc plating dulls to a flat silver, you could clean it up and use a dull silver.
