Paint jail, who's with me?

Date of incarceration: 2/20/22 Parole date: sometime in April My guys are usually fast but are currently understaffed. Just getting started fitting the new hood and trunk

Oh boy, that's so recent I don't even think it qualifies as jail. Hasn't even been a month! Are you doing a full respray?
Mine went in on 4/23/2021 and is being released tomorrow.

Ha if it takes 2 years you'll see me on the news! It's getting a full respray, these guys don't mess around. Not going for best of show, just shooting for a clean rust free driver. I miss driving it already

I can't get a spoiler painted in 2 months. You are not in paint jail. Ha. You are not even in juvenile hall or a drunk tank hold. Easy.

Paint jail, who's with me?
Burned on startup in my garage. 1-15-20. Went to shop 1-17-2020. In the paint booth now. $55k deep and still spending. SMH. And…. It’s a Lemans. God help me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Shiny nice paint is highly overrated.
Now you know why ‘patina’ cars are so popular. People go nuts when they see my faded original paint and surface rusty ‘56 VW panel bus. The price of a good paint job along with the time it takes has folks being satisfied with the old and original look in many cases. Driving and enjoying it, life’s too short for paint prison.

Not recent, but my 1970 GTO went into purgatory January10,2010 and got it back on June 15th, 2017. Spent the next year and half at the mechanic. Part of the last year and a half was to rewire the whole car. Purgatory did a fine job on the wiring. I don't know how the guy is still in business. I was considered one of the lucky ones to get their car back.
I was lucky the only items missing were the front seat belts and a CD changer. Still cost me $500 to replace the seat belts. I had the engine and transmission pulled after it was there a year by my mechanic. I didn't want this guy or his monkeys driving the car around. Good thing I did that. Six months after getting the car back the endura front bumper had stress cracks. To boot the car was never on the road. Had the front bumper taken off the car and sent back to fix. No way they were getting the whole car. Not something I like to talk about. Very PO'd. |

Metal work jail -- I don't even want to say how long at this point. But it's been a couple weeks out for a year.

A complete strip down including restoration of the chassis, powertrain, body, interior usually takes 5-6 years for our club from start to finish. 3-6 guys working every Saturday and I give the car owner homework during the week. Mechanical work can be done year-round in Michigan with heat, but body/paint is limited to June-August. We do all the work on the cars ourselves including engines, but I hate headliners. Every member works and learns, then we do their car. The owner only has to supply the garage, invest in tools, parts, and food, no labor. 2022 is the first year since 1995 that we don't have a major build to work on.
For these owners and the club, it's not always about the time, it's about the bantering and the memories. And the wives wanting their garage space back. Time to work on my Firebird!

Just throwing it out there... a professional wrap can be done in a day or two. Still requires the body to be straight or you'll see every flaw.
