Here are the plug wire holders painted with a zinc/cadmium paint (L) and Eastwood Spray Gray to mimic bare steel (R). I'm thinking the zinc holder looks more original. Any opinions or suggestions for a closer OEM finish?

I vote for zinc.

The two 4-wire holders that are closest to the distributor mount to unique threaded holes in the rear of each head and do not share that position with any other brackets?
Also, the driver's side middle 4-wire holder has a square base, where all the others on the valve covers are rounded to fit snugly. Why? I am having trouble fitting that wire holder onto the DS rear lower valve cover bolt and I'm wondering if it attaches elsewhere. |

Well, I'm embarrassed because I said previously that it mounted to the valve cover. But, you've jogged my memory now and I believe the second 4 wire loom on the drivers side does not mount to the VC. It mounts to a hole on a boss on the head just below the VC. And yes, it's the one with the square base.

Here are the pictures I just took;
One for each side, showing the rear most (four wire) holder, and one for each side showing the wire holder along with it's bolt/attachment location. These locations are the same for RAIV engines; This is my YZ RAIII; The non-RA engines had the additional holder (not for spark plug wires) on the rear outer driver side valve cover bolt; My WT engine isn't nearly as "pretty" as my YZ - as that engine will get rebuilt or at least refreshed before I run it, so I am holding off on painting it... and the 67-70 Pontiac is nearly unobtainable north of the 49th.

The drivers side rear are hard to see with the motor in the car. These are a little clearer.

My finished wire holders.
Here's a nit-picky question: on the two 4-wire holders closest to the distributor, they each have a long arm and a short arm (the mounting post is off-center). Do they mount with the long arm pointing forward or back? |

Looking more closely at pics from unruhjonny and myself, it seems like the rear-most looms are the same, so when you mount them on opposite sides of the motor, the long side faces the opposite direction, if that makes sense. So the one one the driver side, the long side goes forward, on the passenger side the long side goes back.. Actually, I think it's the only way you can mount them, the 'flat' side of the bracket has to go up against the head.

as John said, they only mount (or fit) one way;
on the drivers side it mounts directly to the head - if flipped it wil not fit; on the passenger side, that same mounting spot is used for an emmissions device, so the bracket moves to the rear most intake bolt - and again, it can only fit one way there.

The rear passenger side 4-wire holder nearest the distributor seems to fit perfectly sharing the attachment bolt with the TCS spark bracket. It is then symmetrical side to side and looks good. I will attempt some photos. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Jhein, I've got a bunch of the TCS switches/brackets just lying around if you want one. |

well I guess you can put it where ever you want.
I have documented it there as being where I suggested it go on engines I have pulled these parts off of, and then there's documentation like this.
