Default Cruises

Detroit's surrounding neighborhoods always have car cruises (now that the pandemic is under control.

There was the most known cruise "The Woodward Cruise".

Then there was the Gratiot Cruise a few weeks ago.

And today there was the Harper Avenue cruise.
(I went out to buy some dinner and over the several mile cruise distance
(one direction) there was THOUSAND of vehicles parked on every piece of grass, parking lot, business lot, and more looking for parking spots that friends had saved for them.)

It was also in the mid 70s to low 70s tonight. Perfect weather.
The rain came thru yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy those events are happening again.

I had recently realized I hadn't been to a single cruise this summer. So on Monday evening I drove the GMC to a local restaurant cruise- in the rain- I was the only one there. The next evening I drove to a different one- just as a rain shower was ending- again all alone! Two strikes- one more would be a strike-out. But tonight's cruise was great, with nice weather and a good turnout. Mac's Drive-In (Waterloo, NY) is a real throwback, complete with cute car hops in scotch-plaid mini-skirts. And the menu board appears to be from olden days- burger $2.25, fries $2.50, frosty mug of root beer $1.50, etc.- but the prices are for real.
Thursday I'll be heading to the weekly Walmart cruise in Canandaigua- weather forecast looks great and it usually draws a couple hundred vehicles.

I would prefer a cruise over a show, but always seems like something gets in the way. My favorite is to the crab house, I can meet up with friends, see some cool cars and eat a good meal. Unfortunately have only made 1 thus far. I went to a new one at a starbucks and it was ok, just havent been back yet. There are a couple in the evenings but by the time I get home from work I am usually too tired to head back out.

Seems cruises and car shows are getting back to "normal this year around here". Two weeks ago a suburb, Kettering, OH had a cruise in and ice cream social. They said afterword about 5000 people attended. I would guestimate 200-300 cars. All kinds of free food and activities for little kids as well. A young lady, Alisha Gomez, American Idol finalist, put on her country style concert. It was a nice event. The local cars and coffee drew over 1000 cars a couple times this year.

I heard Vineland had 3 downpours. One of the guys I know was there and got out ok. He's from Delaware came back over to our Delaware City Cruise Night and told me about it. The rest of his buddies were stuck there.

I wish we had some bigger cruises like that. In Houston we have many smaller get togethers since it is so spread out.

Our cars and coffee used to pull about 1500 cars- it was great but a couple burnout accidents killed that one.

We don't allow burnouts at our cruise. If they do it they aren't allowed back. And no alcohol is allowed.

We had one guy with a 69 427 Corvette convertible that finally caught leaving drunk. He tried to do a burnout in the parking lot and almost hit 3 cars. He called this me to find out when our cruise started this year. I got his name out of him and knew exactly who it was. I told him don't ever show up again or the cops will be there to escort him out.

I'm waiting to see him come to a free benefit for the Troops September 24th in White Hall, Delaware (Northwest of Middletown). I guarantee he won't get in.

More info in the Northeast Events Section... in a bit. Now posted for the benefit.

Went to the Hines park cruise last weekend. Lots of cars parked everywhere and it looked like even more actually cruising!
You are right Tom, great to see people/cars back out again!

There's a cruise coming up in my area, New Brighton PA, north of Pittsburgh, that's sponsored by the Western PA chapter of POCI. It isn't a "show", just a cruise that includes closing the street and the ability to cruise a loop. It usually attracts at least 1,000 cars if the weather's good, and it should include a lot of Pontiacs.

There's a similar cruise in Beaver, PA in August, called "Hot Summer Nights", same premise of a cruising loop, and it usually gets somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 cars. Those are my favorite types of events. Nothing against a true "show" but a cruise is more casual and my GTO isn't a "show car" so that suits me!

Annual Frankenmuth AutoFest in Michigan, Friday-Sunday after Labor day. This will be our 28th year of going to it. Small town, great food choices, 2,500+ cars. Friday night main street is closed with cars and several live bands. Saturday the cars are in the park along with major manufacturers showing their parts and cars, almost more than you can walk in one day. Saturday night cruise Main street. Sunday, back in the park and awards. My favorite event of the year.
