Hi: Today I cut open my Wix oil filter # 51258. I run Amsoil 10w-40. This filter is a very well made filter in my opinion. There has been lots of talk about oil filters lately. Just posting for information only. Everything in the filter is metal except for the rubber check valve.

I've been using the same for years on my pontiacs. VR-1 10/30 oil now, different stuff in the past. Never had an issue.

FWIW, one of the You Tubers cut open a WIX, and a NAPA platinum recently, and found the NAPA was different that the WIX, which until recently they were the same.
Since WIX was bought out by Mann and Hummel, a German firm, The top WIX line has had a few cost cutting measures implemented. The NAPA filter was also made by Mann and Hummel, but it was just a little better than the WIX was. Evidently NAPA speced their filter just a bit higher. The WIX was still plenty adequate, just a little less filter media in the can. Here's the video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP8f...ipCityWrencher It's titled "WIX, what happened? NAPA Platinum $14.49, NAPA online WIX XP $10.99, Summit |
