Amazing production casting and machining centers. The technology they developed boggles the mind.
Seeing those line workers almost just tossing those engines together kinda makes me feel silly for sweating the small stuff during my own engine assembly sessions.

I've always wanted to see a Docu-series on the people that make the machines .... that make the machines. Tons of videos of what giant, or complex, or amazing machines can do ... but what about the people and the machines that make the machines ... that make the machines

Interesting, I have never seen cylinder heads installed with the engine in vertical position before! Nice to see the vintage Nagel Hones and Landes crank grinders in use. Most lines in the US today still use those brands.

Fun for me to see. Thanks for posting.
Cool to see the extent of automation and investment in parts manufacturing. The scale of that operation was impressive. Stuff like this brings back lots of memories. I worked in an iron foundry one summer but nothing like that! That video is a tribute, but also a painful reminder of technology history for those of us that had careers in US manufacturing. It was frightening to see an operator man-handling that giant vat of molten iron. Had to be pre-OSHA! That guy was ready to go home at the end of his shift. |

Being a machinist I have always liked the machines that make the machines.
Going back a few years more, if you have ever seen the type setter machine that is at the Mark Twain museum, it boggles the mind how they made the thousands of parts for that(By hand) that would be tough to duplicate with modern machines. |
