Optional 65 GTO hazard flasher
Was the optional hazard flasher for 65 GTO a factory installed, or a dealer only installed Option? Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Everyone I have seen has been a ADD-ON parts piece.

The Flare-Stat is one of the dealer installed optional units. They pop up every now and then. They come with a plug in harness that fits right into the factory wiring harness.

It was Factory or Dealer installed.
There are two types of kits; An early 1965 kit that required a hole to be drilled in the lower DS dash, this was due to the early Speed-O gauges not having the hole punched for the bulb socket. The 2nd/later kit had the correct socket to plug into the back of the Speed-O pod. If you happen upon an early kit but have a late build '65 Lectric Limited has the correct harness for the Speedo

Bought a 4 way flasher kit for my 64 Lemans, was a universal kit made by Flare stat I do believe, 5 wires to hook up from what I can remember.
But upon using the flasher and stepping on brake pedal, the engine started to crank. Was feeding power back to ignition switch thru brake pedal switch. Maybe I had some wires crossed?? No they were all the same colour, LOL. End up putting diode in the brake switch wire so it could not feed power back into the pedal. Kinda scared me first. works good now though. Just haven't had a need to use it yet.

Disregard my post
Guys,
I really went far left and just realized the OP was asking about Flashers and I brain-farted into Parking Brake. My apologies. However, the Hazzard Flasher kit was also a Factory or Dealer add-on. Cheers.

FWIW here is the same thing installed in my 65 Chevelle. I think Pontiac used a little chrome bezel and mounted it horizontally under the dash, but this is how they put them in Chevelles. The switch and wiring are all the same as Pontiac though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbOWf33oT7k I *think* this one shows more how Pontiac installed these. This was in my 65 Chevelle wagon. The bezels actually used may have looked different for Pontiac. But like I said above, the wiring and switch are all the same. In this instance I used a reproduction switch and had to rewire it a bit to fit the A-body system, but that was just get the wiring into that little half moon plug connector. I used my original referenced above as a guide along with a wiring schematic I found in a dealership accessories install manual. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqQenB2mceU

Thank you all for your responses. It was on the car when I purchased it. When I got the PHS documents I also ordered a reproduction window sticker. The flasher was not listed on the sticker. It is a Flare-Stat plug & play unit so I'm assuming it was dealer installed or a previous owner installed it. Thank you all again.

Yep, dealer installed. On the original dealer invoice for my Chevelle the flashers are listed, but as a dealer install for sure. Again, FWIW:

'65 FLARE-STAT's had a full Chrome mounting bracket and I've seen at least two styles of knobs.
I don't know if it was just an early or late thing, what I didn't like about some of the early switches were the clip-on/pinch connectors Vs the plug-and-play in '66, The '66 mounting bracket differed slightly see attached;
