Same Car
Anyone seriously considering bidding on this car PM me before. I checked this car out in 2016, Orange County, CA. I have pictures of the previous engine stamp.

When you remove AC entirely and correctly, you need to make some good size holes in the uppercowl area for the top vents. Factory holes have a lip around this hole in the wiper transmission side of the cowl/firewall. This lip prevents a leak in the car in a car wash or heavy rain. The seals for the upper air vents are just thin sponges. In my part of the country I have done a few of these based on the owners preference, not to make or break a deal on a NOM car.. this part of the the car is easily decided by looking under the plastic cowl cover, feeling up under the cowl by the firewall. Many I have seen done Never even install the upper vents..

That is a gracious offer Greg . From the start it looked like they moved further away from timing cover to make the new froot-loop stamping in undisturbed fly-cut zone.
The original stamping may still have remnants under the paint. Or a distinguishable amount of handy work in the proper area. The block date is probably going to post-date the original true 09D build week anyway. Either way I don't see this seller lifting a finger or making any more scrapes on anything anywhere to investigate. As far as the block and firewall are concerned. He either already knows what we know - or he doesn't want to know . |

LOL, not sure why I didn't come here first. Car is a mess - nothing original here except the VIN tag and the 2nd issue PHS.

So if someone were contingent on a set price for the car pending some deeper hands on investigating - if those holes have the lips around them - it would basically/certainly mean it was a Factory Non-AC Body. 2. If holes were present for a more thorough AC delete to make the upper vents functional - those holes will not have the factory stamped lips. 3. And if the holes were not present at all , and the upper vents were non-functional ... it would indicate a Factory AC body that was quick-swapped into Non-AC . And again, I think the seller would ignore this information too. But it is great info to share amongst us. Thank You Bruce And feel free to adjust that assessment if I buggered it. It looks way too clean and neat and fresh , and fits the recess too completely. It just keeps growing and growing ..... But there is enough seen and known already to close the book on it anyway. |

64k, I was way way high on my estimate, but maybe the economy and reality set in. Be easy to get 50k in a car paying for body and paint alone these days.
IMHO it sold in " driver " territory. People seem to be willing to pay more for turn key toys these days. The only thing left to invest in this car is turning the key, and don't look at both rear quarters at the same time!

I was expecting at least 50k even if everyone went on a non-stop scorning rampage all day long no matter what.
But I didn't expect it to go over 60k due to the circumstances. And figured the reserve was at least 75-80k. Just because it was BaT and the seller seemed to be going for full monte. The galaxy aligned and the car found the best buyer, all things past and previous considered. He won't drop a bit of sweat regardless of what might or might not ever be known in the cowl/firewall areas. It amazed me when I read his plans for the car. More power to him. |
