Default Paint coming along nicely

Been painting a 78 TA SE. Experimenting with single stage paint, I've found thinning it out 10% helps it lay much flatter.

These pics are after cutting and buffing from 1000grit to 3000grit, using Meguiers 105 and 205 compound, a white 3M foam cutting pad, and a black polishing pad.

Looks pretty good so far. I'll grab some more pics of the entire car when I can get it in the sun. It's been raining/snowing for days now.

It's Kirker. Single stage isn't my first choice, but I had a 2000 WS6 TA that was resprayed in SS Black and it looked amazing, so I wanted to see if I could recreate that look.

Most people hold a $100 bill up to the paint, all I had in my wallet was some $1s lol

I worked at a school bus dealer from 1998-2012. We painted school mascot graphics on the sides of buses, using single stage urethane, usually Nason.
Stuff worked great and holds up great. Very little, if any fading over years of use.
I plan to paint my TA black, same single stage!!!

NOW, get the 77 painted...LOL

The SE 4 speed? I've been dailying that thing so much, I've racked up some serious miles on it lol

That one is going on the rotisserie. It'll be a while before it sees paint, but when it does, it'll be glorious. I think I might pay homage to the original owner and the history of the car and have all the stripes and hood bird hand painted and gold leafed.

Since the weather has continually been a mess, I grabbed a pic of it standing on my lift.

The decals should be here this week. Can wait to get it all striped up!

Nothing wrong with single stage....as long it’s a solid color.
I think it looks better ...than a clear coat.

Got it outside today. I can see a few small spots where I need to go back over it with the buffer, but overall I'm happy with it.

Thanks Bruce!

It's on the lift now for the new exhaust. Boy what a pain in the ass that's becoming. You'd think things all ordered from the same manufacture would fit correctly, but no.

Did a buff and detail on a black 2009 Corvette for an old High School friend.
Lost track of the hours I had invested
Went over it twice with the wool pad and heavy cut compound
Then step 2 polish on a foam pad
Then step 2 again on a spider foam pad on my DA sander ( oscillating)
Then 2 coats ( 12 hours apart ) of Griots garage spray ceramic coating.
Lots of micro fiber towels were used

Swore I’d nevah do a black car detail job.
I felt like I went 12 rounds with Mike Tyson

Charged him 700.00 ....and he couldn’t pay me fast enough...Got A lot of compliments on it too.

Black is a Bitch

I’ve been in the Autbody / paint for 47 years....so I know what it takes ..to get that black to the next level of shine.
I swore I’d nevah do another Black detail Job..they are a thankless bitch to do.

Charged him 700.00 ....and he could pay me fast enough....guess I under charged and over delivered.

After the exhaust battles on Birds, I just bite the bullet and get a Gardner. Fits better than originals did in the dealership. Its pricey, and has a lead time, but for a keeper, its the best option, especially for ground clearance.

Black is a real bitch, but when done right it looks amazing. Plus, it's helped me become better at body work, as it shows everything. It really puts the pressure on you hahah

I'm definitely going the Gardner route on my 70 TA. That's a keeper, so I dont mind the cost. This car will be up for sale soon, and couldn't justify the lead time for it. Plus, I can weld, so I'll just make it work lol

Did my black 67 GTO in PPG SS about 15 years ago....Held up really well. Plan on doing a respray this year as I pulled off the vinyl roof.
