Package tray material suggestions?
Installed a new Ames package tray, but cut out two holes for 6x9 speakers and while it turned really nice, I just don't like seeing the speakers.
I'd like to replace the package tray (again) and install the speakers but instead of using the Hertz grills, cover the package tray with mesh so it "hides' the speakers. Sort of like the original rear speaker. Does anyone have a recommendation of material that would look somewhat OEM, but doesn't look like the typical "stereo shop" installed material? Something nicer.

You may want to check with Legendary to see if they offer a package tray with cutouts for 2 speakers. I know they offer one with a single cutout for a speaker in the middle.

I used this > https://www.ebay.com/itm/254591452109
Black, foamed back. Can not see the speakers at all.

Reproduction package trays always had the cloth mesh delaminate from the cardboard backing in the sun over time. I got tired of it and made my own using thick cardboard which I drilled for the speaker and steel screen door mesh that I painted black. I folded the screen mesh over the cardboard around the perimeter and secured it with contact cement.

Both great ideas, I wondered about using a mesh of my own. Looks really good!
Gtospieg, also a great idea so I looked and Ames sells them too. Not sure how I missed that when I ordered mine last summer? I'll call and see what the center to center is on the one they sell, if it doesn't line up may have to make my own as planned.

The one I got from Legendary worked perfectly for a single "stereo" speaker in the middle. It's been in there since 2013 and no problems with quality...18000miles.

Find a stereo shop either in person or on line and buy some speaker cloth. It's sold by the yard.
