Are these ‘69 #45 heads and 2 bbl intake worth anything?
I’m cleaning out the shed and have some 1969 #45 heads and a 2 bbl intake:
2 x #45 heads - D089 (April 08, 1969) 1 x 2 bbl intake #9794233 - D109 (April 09, 1969) Are the heads and 2 bbl intake worth anything? For the heads, I found the following @ http://www.wallaceracing.com/head1.htm Year: 1969 Engine: 400/265HP Head #: 45 Valve Size: 1.96/1.66 CC or CR: 8.6 c.r. Not sure what the chamber size is, but I see they are low compression heads. I believe they can be converted to large valve (2.11/1.77) as I had this done for my ’70 #16 heads? Perhaps the low compression ratio would be good for a boosted application? Any thoughts on if the heads and intake can be salvaged by hot tanking or do they seem too far gone? There are no cracks, etc. just the (surface?) rust. Thanks for any input, Jim.

Most people wouldn’t take them if you were giving them away even if they were just taken off a running engine yesterday.
Set them at the curb for the scrap man. There are plenty of heads available that already have screw-in studs and big intake valves for cheap like the popular 6X that are worth spending the money on rebuilding. The small valve press-in stud heads just aren’t worth investing money in unless perhaps you live in a foreign country and that’s all you can find locally.

Agreed! I've got a set of #13s and can give them away either.

Those #13s have value and are worth rebuilding. Perfect street 400 head with chambers usually in the 78 to 81cc range even though they are advertised at 72cc, the biggest chambers of the all the ‘67 through ‘70 high compression 400 heads. Big valves and screw in studs too.
Unfortunately the crazy cost of shipping nowadays makes cast iron heads more difficult to sell. Only the Ram Air and SD heads or other high performance GTO or Firebird casting numbers are worth spending money to ship. The 1970 #13s are a nice head but mostly used on automatic GP, GTO and Firebird 400 engines. Don’t sit them at the curb, but a local sale will be what it might take to sell them.

I sold a pair within the last year that came off a running engine for $175. The guy wanted them because that’s what his car originally had.
At the very least I’d post them on CL or Marketplace free if they pick up locally. Somebody might want them or at least want to practice some porting lol. |

There are 5-6 dodads on that intake worth keeping.

Most definitely.
Unscrew the PCV and vacuum fittings along with the temperature switch, thermostat housing and hardware. Keep the head bolts too. As for the rest, well…..

I use two barrel intakes to fill where my dog was digging under the fence. She hates it!

If you were closer, I would take them as spares.
I have a complete matching 69 GTO Convertible, 400 2bbl, auto, with factory installed hideaways and a posi ; in Limelight green with midnight green interior; with sales paperwork and protecto plate, Even though not as desirable as a 400 4 speed, still a low production car, (one of 215) that deserves to be restored as it left the factory. One of many on my list.....

Thanks everyone, great feedback! I'll pull the fittings that b-man mentioned and then most likely post the intake and heads on Craigslist.
