Agreed...purposely funny looking to make some sort of statement

Hopefully that changes over time if anything...

I think they are ugly for a reason; the early adopters and the electronic geeks like to be different and stand out and say look at me. Look at the Tesla truck, that thing is hideous. The greenies don't seem to care you are trading one form of pollution for another. Who cares if they strip mine a third world country, I have my shiny new ugly electric vehicle. Alot of the articles I have been reading lately have been complaining about the lack of working chargers when they have to find a charger on the road. I would rather have a slow old Pontiac than a faster electric car, any day. I can't tell one Tesla from another on the road. They are not a very attractive car. I don't hate electric cars. I don't think this country is equipped for the great revolution to all electric everything. We have to limit our electric use several times during the summer in the not so hot Metro Detroit area. What happens when you need to charge your car because you have to go somewhere because of an emergency. You can't plan everything.

They already experienced this in California last summer.

Many people are viewing it as a way to control what we do and where we go as well, limiting your freedom to move around.

Overheard of a bragging Tesla owner, "My new Tesla will pass everything on the road, but a charging station............

I've seen videos where the EV driver is experimenting with chargers on the road and admits he sometimes takes a nap in his car waiting for his car to charge up....now that's funny,,ridiculous but funny.

A friend was talking to a brother in law of his that the family drives about all EV’s. The brother in law’s parents live in the city, own two Tesla’s, I don’t know which model, they were in the neighborhood of $95K each. They NEVER take them out of town. The next city (which is Omaha, they are in Lincoln NE) is 40 miles away. They rent a car to go there. That’s some serious range anxiety. Lol

The brother in law drives a old EV, it is old enough now it only had a battery range of 35 miles. Which still works for him since in is less than 35 miles to work and back. He claimed his old EV with out accelerate about anything on the highway. To 20 MPH.

Must be that EV 1 that slipped through, running on the original lead acid batteries.

Took a 200 mile trip today a/c running . Lots of battery left with no stopping for any charging.

Don't know newer Corvettes that well but had a little run on the way home with what had to be built in the last 10 years from a red light, and the Y walked away from it.
I DID like the exhaust note of that Vette.

The anxiety is on the drivers end. I am sure their cars have a LOT more range than that.

This is absolutely ridiculous and highly unlikely
I just laugh when I read some of this stuff .
I drive 56 miles away with other stops along the way both there and back on a half charge regularly. No issues

As far as sleeping in your car while you charge that’s if you want an absolutely full charge ,maybe. The cars condition in the way there if you’re smart enough to tell it you’re going to charge. They’ll charge about half full in 10 to 15 min. That’s 150 ish miles. As they charge higher it takes longer with the last 15 percent taking as long as the first 85 percent.

None of these little anecdotes I hear is ever accurate . Always very exaggerated . To the point it’s laughable . It’s like a bunch of greenies bitching about gas guzzlers used to be . It’s all just so stupid .

Just cause I live my Tesla and I do , didnt stop me from spending the night working on my RAIV firebird w the RAV pro stock engine in it tonight. Still love that car too And its range really sucks!! I can’t charge it, I can’t run it on pump gas , if I went by the theories of the guys in this thread and measured it by it’s range there would be no reason to own it .

Congrats on the model Y best bang for the buck on Tesla . Still pretty competent in that power department. Very cool car .
You’re gonna love that car!!! I know everyone wants to hate them but the more you drive it the more you’ll love it.

The son thinks his parents are completely ridiculous also for not taking the car out of town (AT ALL). He loves their Tesla’s, but says having only EV’s is CRAZY. He has a EV and an IC vehicle.

They are real people though. I imagine that mentality is going to be more common as EV’s become more and more popular. A quick charge is fine for getting you back home, it doesn’t work very well is you are still on the way to your destination.

When a gas station is busy, I drive by it to the next one. Sometimes they have 36 pumps, then there will be another station across the street with another 36 pumps! Along the interstate those are mostly all people that are not local or going a short distance. That would take a lot of power on a recharge station. What is the biggest recharge station right now for an EV? If you have to wait at a gas pump, and there is that many gas pumps, what will be the wait at a charging station when all those car are EVs.

I actually like Tesla’s. I would love to have one, I could find plenty of uses for an EV pickup. Just close to home though (like what you guys that have Tesla’s are doing). When you go beyond the home charge, and typical short range use, the problems are with EV’s in general. Not to mention the rare minerals to make the batteries, and other issues. I would think they will get those things figured out eventually, they don’t have it figured out yet though. I read Dodge is experimenting with a range extender (on board IC generator) on their EV pickup???

Enjoy the cheap charge ups while you can. EV’s remind me of our propane vehicles a lot. Fill from home, started out almost free. Better plan ahead if you want to go any distance beyond the range of your fuel tanks. Which was normally 80 gallon, they had decent range. High octane, some combos we did a a lot of power. If you bought propane on the road, it was a lot more expensive than your contracted fuel from home…Almost free at first, then the price kept going higher. States started requiring permits for highway use for road tax. Eventually propane was not cost effective, at one point a few years ago it was over $4 a gallon! Too much demand, not enough supply. Think that are EV’s are cheap to recharge now, wait till everyone is charging their car at night. Wait till they start charging road tax. Then add to that the cost of energy will be higher too.

Model Y performance

200 miles total distance we pay 11.6 cents for a KWH.

The car used 62 % of its available charge to 96% which is 47 KWH to do the total distance

47 KWH X .116 = $ 5.45

I did the same trip a few weeks earlier with my Ram truck ( Cummins powered) It actually does exceptionally well on fuel usage

24 MPG 8.3 gallons diesel X $4.25 = $35.41

Almost 6 1/2 times the "fuel" cost.
Comparing fuel costs for one of the cheapest Tesla products to a full size pickup is meaningless.

Comparing costs of fuel you acquire at home (discounted) vs fuel you pay for on the road (full retail price) is even more meaningless.

Try comparing cost of refueling similar sized vehicles on the road at normal fueling stations if you want to compare.

If I take a 200 mile trip to visit my daughter, I can't reasonably recharge an EV at her house because she would only have 110 volt for recharging unless I kept my EV tethered to her 110 outlet the entire time I was down there - assuming I stayed long enough...

As I stated earlier, if you only use your EV on short trips/daily commutes, it can be a viable vehicle for you.

Not too long ago (2020) I took my Chevy Equinox (somewhat similar size wise to a Model Y) from MN to Nashville. I averaged 35.1 MPG on the first tank of gas (500 miles) on that trip (straight highway driving 70 - 75MPH with the AC running).

That 500 mile run could not have been done in your Model Y for the rough equivalent of $14.00 based on your home charging calculations. Refueling on the road would have at least double or tripled your cost.

Because I took this trip before the unwarranted fuel price increases in the last couple of years, I paid $1.699 per gallon in MO, so less than $24.00 for retail priced fuel.

Just how economical is an EV without inflated gas prices?

Thanks, Yeah This whole Model Y Performance purchase happened because of Life events.

Was about to either repaint the wife's AMX and there IS pressure there. or begin to start working on The H-O Racing SD which was the plan .

Then in December my little brother died. Which through me for a loop . His health was so diminished he couldn't work on his rigs anymore, he had the financial means but drove a barely running rig instead of buying something new and reliable.
Things went downhill again in January, slipped on the ice and broke the ball off of my femur.

I have had a lot of vehicles over the years but never a "New" one.
When tesla dropped the price 13k and they qualified for the 7500 tax break while sitting in a hospital bed after the hip /leg surgery I ordered the LR model on my phone.
Well that plan didn't seem to be working because after aver a month no VIN number, I had heard that if you "upped" the order cost and switched to a Performance model for 3 K more the car might be delivered within what was at that time the tax window .

So I switched the order to a P and within 2 hours I had a VIN and a couple days later a confirmed delivery date. I was able to walk by the time the car was delivered.

Absolutely like it so far. It handles like the Bird ," like it is on rails", is quick and fast and comfortable and stops well.

Yeah it is a bit funky looking but that .23 coefficient of drag, really helps when pushing the speed limit.

Switching to the Performance model was also a better fit and dropping the 0-60 down to 3.7 seconds was worth the extra coin and a actual new car enjoyable every time I get in and get that new car smell.

The summer efficiency is kind of mind blowing ...

Made this trip twice and set the trip computer on the second run just to be sure it really only used under 6 dollars to do a 200 mile round trip. Basically like getting well over 100 miles per gallon

Really need to get working on the muscle cars,

Also have the shoe horned 455 powered RX7 that I had done most of the body work on. Loss of family and This leg thing has slowed me down and lost stamina but the Tesla can be the everyday car and grocery store, airport trip and parts hauler.

Just hope I can get caught up with all the other jobs so the Gas powered Muscle cars can get some attention.

I Don't get the Either Or attitude.

Some people HATE these Tesla cars.

The second day of having the Y was driving home and drove by a school close to home while obeying the 20 MPH speed limit.
This Mid 70s lifted F 250 with a young gal was coming toward me as I exited the school speed zone.

She sees the Tesla Floors it blowing a big cloud of smoke, Sticks her arm out the window flipping me off while Screaming Obscenities at me.
She proceeds into the 20 MPH school zone at over 50 miles an hour while the speed limit is still active.

Yeah I do not understand then again never had a thing for most chevie's and they both Came out of GM.

Still I would never do what that Gal did passing by a Chevy.

Well i used the Cummins RAM because It is a vehicle I own and It does get the best MPG of any of Our ICE vehicles except my z900 Kawasaki.

Trying to use COVID gas prices to compare efficiency Is a Joke.

Many small Oil and Gas owner operator producers went Bankrupt during that time, Many were bought up by companies like Chevron and others.

It was a Very bad time on the producer side of the equation.

I installed for about $500 a Tesla wall charger. It charges at 48 Amps and can easily refill a 200 mile trip in about 3 1/2 hours Not that I needed to...

The car still had about a hundred miles of range left in it.

I Like All of my vehicles. It is nice finally having One New Vehicle and is another " 2 for one" checked off of my bucket list.

propane propane... 🎶

hahaha: https://youtu.be/ldoT2mHubGE

That reminds me of the propane powered FB i saw here years ago - people are so cheap they will do anything lol

455dan...do you have build threads going for yer RX7 & AMX? So cool!

Yes, electric cars invoke the anger for some but driving like that in the school zone is unacceptable.

You bought your Tesla because the climate cult reintroduced the tax credit for EV's that already had sold too many EV's (proving that they didn't need the rebate anymore) to qualify.

We were all being told to wear masks and get vaccinated to be safe from Covid all last year when gas prices were artificially inflated to over $5.00 per gallon to promote the viability of EV's.

When the climate cultists get power, they create situations to make EV's look more attractive.

Without ongoing subsidies for EV's, they make no sense.

IF the climate cult succeeds in doing away ICE's by 2035, we either won't have a power grid to supply all the EV's or our electric rates will quadruple (wild assed guess) because of the required new power generation plants that need to be built.

CA is already in the predicament of lack of a power grid to support current EV levels - despite having one of the highest electric rates in the country. Their rates will surely continue to rise as they have banned natural gas from new construction on top of the increased EV volume. Ironically, 40% of the electricity in CA is generated by fossil fuels (2021 CA Energy Commission data).

You paid to add a charger for home use so you could 'fuel' your Tesla in 3.5 HOURS. On a regular 110 volt outlet, it would have taken 40 - 50 hours.

So, factor that into the cost of your electricity to drive your Tesla. I don't have to buy a gas tank and a pump to fuel my ICE's.

You also didn't respond to what it would cost to charge your Tesla on the road as I did on my trip to Nashville. A 200 mile round trip isn't a real world example of what it costs to 'fuel' an EV on a trip.

For far less money than your Tesla, you could have purchased an decent ICE of similar size that could have delivered 30+ MPG and not required you to spend extra money to fuel at home to avoid the hassles of refueling at retail prices for your short trips.

Decisions have consequences. That's why gas prices started spiking in early 2021, hitting crazy levels in 2022 and have continued to stay much higher than necessary through today.

I welcome the day when common sense comes back to our country.

From an article dated Feb 19 2023

Says that Tesla mobile charging stations are , on average , 30 cents per kWh.
Depending on location and other factors (?)
I would guess that means it could vary wildly without a rhyme or reason.

Standard packs are 55 kWh , about $20
Long range packs are 75 kWh , about $30
It didn't say if there is any convenience fee included or added - but the math is a little off on those figures at 30 cents per kWh.

Supposedly there are almost 3 million pre-orders for the new Tesla Truck.
They predict they can build 250,000 per year beginning in 2024.
Would take 12 years to fulfill 3 million orders.

1 motor, 2 motor, 3 motor, and maybe a 4 motor version that can Crab Walk sideways.
I think a lot of buyers will go for the Crab Walker - just because

3 motor is expected 0-60mph in 3 seconds , with 500 mile range.
Approx cost $70k ...... subject to change , of course.

I just did a break down on my power bill.
Paying about 11.5 cents per kWh

But supplied by a Co-Op so paying probably about double than if it were supplied directly by a local Municipal inside the city limits.
