Updated Tri Power Intake by KRE
Here’s a peak at Kauffman’s new intake. Says it’s good to about 750 HP.
Uses either Rochester or Holley carbs.

Removable top so you can work the insides and choose whatever carburetor style and coolant crossover already separated.
According to their website as cast is $715 with crossover for either style, port matching from 290 cfm through 400 cfm at $75 up to $200. Quite reasonable actually. Game changer. About time someone stepped up and brought something like this to market. No surprise that the Kaufmans made this happen.

They said they would be offering carbs as well. I asked in FB if anyone was offering 2300s set up for a tripower and they said they would be.
Holley sells the kit with intake for a small block but to my knowledge they don’t sell the carbs separately.

Very exciting. Besides the weight savings and superior casting to the old alu tripower- curious what u guys think this would do for my set up?
461, kre 290 d ports, raiv cam, 1.65 rockers, ram air manifolds, tripower with opened up carbs, stock intake. 3.36 gears and a tkx. Wondering if the new manifold would hurt low end torque? What else should I expect? I am a stop light to stop light guy. Not much 1/4 mile…thoughts appreciated. I just asked jeff the same. |

Would look super cool.
That’s enough in my book. You have plenty of cubes so a single plane intake would still have plenty of low end torque, with a stick shift it would be awesome. Sorry if I was getting too technical there. Tri-Power is the Pontiac signature street setup, run with it !

Would be interesting to see a HP comparison between the Holley two barrels vs. real Tri-Power Rochester Carbs.
The stock end carbs flow very well, and the center carb would be better by far for MPG on the street. Anyone who has used Holley carbs on the street knows they use a lot more fuel than many other carbs.

Comparison Rochesters to Holleys KRE
I have supplied KRE with a modified set of Rochesters. All three have been opened up to 1 3/8”, in venturi area. Their plan is to do a Dyno pull on same motor, comparing them with the Holleys.
Results will be interesting. |

I've had mine installed & running for a couple weeks now.
My carb venturis are opened up as well. Overall, I'm really happy with the performance results. Quite a difference from my old worked intake. Just as an FYI, anyone who expects this to be a quick 20 minute swap as I did will be somewhat disappointed. Several issues, the most significant including: 1) Required a .065" correction cut. I've had 3 different TriPower intakes on this same motor previously- none of which required a correction cut. 2) 1/4" interference between the back of the intake and the distributor. I had to grind .125"+ off both the distributor cap and the back of the intake. 3) Machining required to eliminate airflow obstruction on all three carb flange ports. There's a few other things, most minor stuff. Here's a couple: Need to drill & tap in 3 locations if you run PB, PCV & VA. The bolts included are stock length- but the intake mounting flanges are 1/4" thinner than factory- so the bolts bottom out in the head threads before they make contact with manifold. The ports are tall & wide- so the small diameter 3/8" 12-point heads supplied are necessary for clearance. I replaced with 1/4" shorter socket heads. The ports are tall- so the valve cover lips need to be clearance as well. There are shortcomings in the engineering design department- most notably the width of the carb flanges and the lack of material underneath them at the entrance to the plenum to accommodate proper airflow. There's not enough meat there to open up & correct that short turn.
