Me too. Not the movement though.

No flat cams here. And, more power in most cases.

Hydraulic roller cams have been installed in OEM applications for many years and these cars go 300,000+ miles without a lick of trouble with the lifters. The companies that make them for the auto manufactures sell hundreds of thousands of them and if they sell bad parts and the OEM has warranty claims that company will loose their business. The big OEM's have real clout and demand top quality parts. Now the aftermarket for 50+ year old vehicles we don't have much of a voice and they can get away with making crap and selling it at outrageous prices. Low volume low quality high price. This new cartridge lifter that Comp Cams has developed is very interesting and in theory is a great idea. The most critical part of the lifter that controls the leakdown rate requires a good design and very close tolerances. The cartridge is the same for all applications, Ford, Chrysler, Chevy, Buick, Olds, Pontiac whatever. This allows them to mass produce the cartridge to bring down manufacturing cost, then put the cartridge in bodies specific for each application. Comp Cams claims that the bodies are made correct for each application putting the oil band in proper location rather than using Chevy bodies for a Pontiac. Lets see if these are as good as Comp advertises. We know that Comp doesn't actually make lifters, they contract them out to a supplier. Comp has a history of farming out work to the lowest and frequently changes suppliers because they are greedy and want to make as much money as possible then quality goes to hell once again. I'm optimistic about these new lifters and anxious to hear more reports of them doing what they are supposed to without the click clack and sewing machine noise.

The other thing, there’s only two companies that machine all cams, one is in Michigan. So all those off shelf cans, Summit, Jegs’s are machine there. Comp cam does their own custom grinds themselves, not sure about Crower. Supposedly billet dose their own to.

My understanding is there are only 2 companies which produce all of the cam cores. They also do bulk grounding for some grinds which get re-boxed and sold by many different companies. But these are all very high volume cams. Most cams are ground by the different cam companies, but are ground on cores produced by only these 2 companies.

Stan

PS Let me add there are high $ billet cam core options produced by other companies. Jones Cam Design make a Tool Steel cam core and they are other that do that also.
