1963 transmission
Should the transmission be exactly centered in the frame?
Trying to fit a new crossmember for my Richmond 5 speed but noticed that the center of the output shaft is 1 1/2” (3/4” off center) closer to the drivers side. The engine mounts are not completely tightened down but they do locate the position of the mock up engine very well. I tried to pry the trans over but it doesn’t really want to move. I don’t want to fab an off center crossmember and then have an issue. Engine mounts are new, not sagging old ones.

Probably not.
Most cars the driveline is pushed to the passenger side, to provide some extra clearance to the steering column and gear. K

Newer 9785581 bellhousing, not a ‘63. Don’t think that’s the issue.
It appears that the engine is not square in the frame. I have a few different engine mounts, will look into how I can square things up before fitting a new crossmember. I have one that has places for a nice dual exhaust. Had to modify the mount area to clear the transmission and need to add new ends to lengthen it some but it should work. Forget what it came from. When everything fits right, it’s off for 2” custom headers!

63 bells have the trans tilted to the pass side of the car and also uses a diff trans mount that goes around the tail shaft.Might have something to do with the location on the trans x member?Tom
