Default Here ya go.

Since the other thread got "canned" for some of us not behaving nicely I put up a link here where I'm NOT part of the equation. I did add some comments to help out the guy working on it, but he's not having much success despite his best efforts and putting better parts in it.

9.0:1 and cammed huh. Not just carb problem, moreso a compression and cam problem.

For 9.0:1 and cammed 455+060, 4 of my rebuilt Q-JETs all stumbled. Whereas the 1050 Holley (with 98 or 104 Jets? Forget) could muster smooth and strong response. Probably Compensated by dumping fuel.

I worked hard to get 9.0:1 to play like a high compr engine in the 1/4 mile, but doesn't mean i understood how.

So the fella had a working carb that also could dump fuel, whereas the other carb didn't.

Correct, far from an "ideal" set-up and cam choice for the compression and CID, however he added this:

"This thing does NOT run perfectly at WOT. It "breaks up" and surges a bit. I can bolt on one of my "loaner" 800cfm carbs which pulls very hard at WOT and runs flawlessly at idle and part-throttle."

I actually talked to him by phone and it's a mystery at the moment, but for sure there isn't a better factory Q-jet out there for high performance work than the 17057274 Pontiac unit. It's the "hack" job it went thru that's causing the issues, been there and done that more times than I can count........
