Hello Everyone,

Below is the response from this products manufacturer to my email. It reiterates that there is NO class rating for this product. I honestly hopes this puts to rest any questions or concerns anyone has about this great product. I believe that when we find a good product or service, we should pass it along!

Hello Bill,

You are correct. Our hitch tighteners do not have a rating.

"Hitch Style" refers only to what the hitch looks like. "Hitch Rating"
refers to the maximum tongue weight and gross trailer weight a
particular vehicle can tow.

Many persons confuse the terms or use them incorrectly.

For example: A 2" hitch with the reinforcing strap or casting welded on
the end is commonly referred to as a Class lll hitch just because it
looks like a Class lll, 3" across, 2" opening. But, in reality the
manufacturers "Hitch Rating" could be from less than I on a Prius to lV
or V on vehicles such as your trucks.

designed to keep a bicycle rack they
sell from ratting around …..

The manufacturer of this aftermarket
product is not making an accurate statement

receiver hitch according to Curt

submitted for evaluation and review for
suitably for application by the manufacturer
to protect them from civil and criminal
negligence claims arising out of
claim of loss or failure.

Sounds Ike this is a small company
that chose not to do that - hope
they have deep pockets in the event
off a lawsuit.

The manufacturer assigned a Class 3 rating
to this product - if the manufacturer intended
the product to be used on any class of 2 inch
receiver hitch then that should be clearly
stated in the description.

Hitchrider uses a class 3 as example as they have a lot of market in that weight class. Any side clamp has Zero affect on the rating of a hitch, be it towing, or tongue weight. While it may keep a hitch from moving, its not " adding" and class or rating, and its Not Removing any. This is comparable to clamping down air brake lines. Doesn't change the pressure rating of the tubing..
Went through this stuff during extreme cold nylon plow towing.
I would worry more about people using Any Stainless bolts for towing than a simple tie wrap.., yeah it works and its not involved in any risk.

My opinions are formed by firsthand
experience and advice offered by
folks who are in vehicle enforcement
including a recently retired Weigh master
in California and active vehicle enforcement
officers in Ohio - Oklahoma - Pennsylvania.

My tow vehicle set up:

15K receiver hitch
15K ball mount or “ stinger “
15K 2-5/16” trailer ball

My current custom all aluminum trailer:

12K coupler
12K equalizer assist

So my capacity is 12K for what I pull.
Not a problem because I don’t transport
any vehicles over 6K.

If I added this bicycle carrier device
my rating which decrease to 6K.

That - is a fact.

I am an actual business.
I am subject to the law.
I respect and observe and comply.

Irregardless of my opinion of it.
