I put buckets in my 72. Seems weird without a console. I'm tall and like to rest my knee against it in a car with buckets.

I've got a console, but don't want to go away from the column shift. Anyone install the console and just eliminate the shifter on it?

My lemans was buckets, column, no console. Drove me nuts, lol.

Personally I haven’t done what you’re looking to do, but I don’t see any reason why you cannot. If you have an old worn out shifter, gut it, then slap a console in it. If your car never had a console, you’ll need the front and rear console brackets, those along with the shifter locate and mount it. The floor pan will have dimples where they attach, IIRC the body manual or assembly manual will indicate where.

Based on another thread I saw, you could fab something up where the shifter bezel would reside….like a cup holder!

Hey, thanks! Thought I would enjoy the extra space but it is weird.

I was thinking just a flat piece of wood to match in place of the shifter, but like that idea for the cupholder.

I did that in high school to my 72. Added bucket seats and console but kept my column shifter. I took a piece of scrap wood, cut it same shape as shifter bezel, then sanded it, stained it and cut a hole in it for a slip in stainless cup holder. Worked great
