Yes and before that which he thinks was a fluke 175. I’m not gonna argue with you or get into a debate with you. We are finding out more and more things as a thread progresses.

Brian,
After he redid the valve adjustment he did a cranking compression test on the other 4 cylinders and got around 150 psi. Stan

Is calculating cranking compression and exact science. No but it can be done fairly close. Could the ICL for the cam be way out showing 148 psi. Yes. BUT for that to happen the CR has to be far different than 8.0:1

Thread where the 60240 gets some good marks in a low-compression late 400:

Well then now that he got the carburetor adjusted, and dose the adjustable valve’s with poly locks and studs. Let’s see what he comes up with…how it turns out. Instead of focusing solely on Cam phasing.

So 10 pages later how much power could a guy even expect from a low compression 400 with a small cam? 250-300hp if lucky I’m thinking. It’s only going to feel so strong with those parts even if all is good. So now let’s hear how I’m a 100hp off.

The float on the carb was adjusted backwards, so it was running extremely rich, I got that dialed in and it seems to be running lean, but the mixture screws are only 2 turns out, in a bit I'm going to reajust the mixture screws and recheck the timing and take it out for a spin, I am going to swap the plugs today so Ill post some pictures when they come out. And yes, the vacuum was 15" and it is 10" now

just found an intake leak at the heads on both sides, when I covered the primaries idling the engine picked up speed and the vacuum increased to 13-14"

When you pull the intake to see what’s going on and then you go to reinstall it make darn sure that without a gasket being used it will sit flush on the heads and not first bottom out on the push rod cover.
This is easy to check with some clay or balled up Aluminium foil for a crush test.

Pull the dipstick and smell the oil on it. See if it smells like fuel. Wow ! You had allot going on. carburetor issues intake leaking valve adjustment, glad to see its not the cam. Yeah I would change the oil anyway, taking chance of the rings getting wash out. Put fresh set of plugs in there too.
