That much oil getting in would kill off whatever the octane level was in the fuel you where running making for ping and detonation.

Stock cast pistons can not withstand much of that without cracking and many times braking the rings with them.

This leaves pretty good signs of scratching up & down the bore(s) .

Are you seeing any signs of that?

With the pistons at TDC do any of them rock more then others?
This can be a sign of broken rings.

If you have someone bar the motor over as you listen into each cylinder, pistons that are busted and of have broken rings will make a scraping sound when they travel the bore much more then cylinders that are ok.
Your into it so far now you may have to pop the pistons out to look at them!
There doesn't seem to be any broken pistons/rings. When the engine was running I never heard any pinging or detonaton. None were rocking at TDC or making scraping noises. There is definitely scoring in all 8 cylinders and gas in the oil. The scoring seems light though. I can barely feel it with a fingernail

I will have to think about this some. But that doesn't sound to me like rings to me.

The original o rings were pretty much gone, I replaced them with the stock O rings

I don’t know having good compression in all cylinders at least the amount should have, telling me its sucking oil from some where. Good possibility it’s valve seals. Being its happening in a few cylinders. Or valve guides … I have to be there seeing everything for myself to really diagnose what’s going on.

Ok, O’rings not a good idea, I would definitely have new teflon valve seals installed. And check valve guides for where. I’m guessing this (could) be the issue

If you can, take those cylinders that were getting oil in them, pope valve springs off and see, if those O’ring seals are still good, or if the moved up the valves.

Did you put back on the round oil splash shields on the top of each valve spring ?

They must be used to control oil flow to the stems when your just using the stock valve stem O-ring and not a positive valve guide mounted seal.

Bearing wise it looks like that with the level of oil dilution you where getting that spun bearings would have been in the cards soon!

I would say you will want to add a crank polish job to your list of machine shop work.

Question, how was the motor running before you put new rings in and made cam change ? Just wondering if you where just making cam change what made you decide to hone and put new rings in.

As a first step I would run a well WD-40 oiled up green 3M scotch brite pad up & down the cylinder walls to see how they look with just that level of work.

Did you find anything worth talking about in the bottom of the oil pan?

What did you find when you cut open the oil filter?

Stan

Small flecks of metal, I'm sure that some of it is from the bearings and some is from breaking in the rings
