Thanks jarhead. I found the info I was looking for.

However, one question I have is that my paint code was I-C which is Autumn Bronze with Cameo Ivory upper body color. What is meant by "Upper Body Color"

Upper would be the color of the convertible top if you had one.

Our Firebird is a coupe and it currently has a painted top. Maybe it originally had a vinyl top? Is the vinyl top considered part of the custom trim package then?

I used the trim decoder and this is info I got back:

1968 Pontiac Firebird Coupe with Custom Trim Option
The paint was Autumn Bronze (6) with Cameo Ivory upper body color.
The trim color and material were Black Custom Option Vinyl.
This car was number 3,825 built in the 3rd week of July at the Van Nuys, California plant.

Special Note:

(6) Your Firebird was painted with a Custom Factory Paint that was not normally offered on this year's Firebird line. Pontiac would regularly borrow a paint from another line (ie - Camaro, Corvette, etc.) when the owner wanted the color.

Thanks,

Keith

What you have is a two-tone paint scheme, with the Cameo Ivory upper body. Basically, they painted the roof in the same places a vinyl top would have covered, even using the same bright trim to divide the colors.

By the way, Autumn Bronze was available as a Spring color only used on Camaro, Corvette and Firebird in 68, not "borrowed" as stated in the decoder you used. It is listed in all late 68 literature as an available color for Firebird only in the Pontiac line.

If you go the First Generation Firebird website on-line car show, car #37, you'll see the 68 400 convertible I used to own, which I converted to that color from Solar Red.

Not to bring back a dead post. But I just found it funny because I bought this car back in January of this year. A couple of things are incorrect on his original post of the body tag. I am curious if what color the car was back in 05. It's white on white at the moment.

Yeah. I bought it off of a dealer in Florida. He said he found it for sale on the side of the road on his way to work. Lol

If the code is I (eye) it was Autumn Bronze
If the code is 1 (one) it was special paint color

And the roof was White paint (2-tone)

Do you have the PHS Documentation on the car ?
Built 07C has potential to be a 400 RamAir 2 car.

jkcornett has not been back on this forum since Feb 2005.
Doubt we will get any response from him.

Wild that you found this post about the car.
Good luck with it

Yeah, I decoded the body tag before I bought it. I thought it had potential to be a good car. Right after I bought it, I applied for the PHS documentation. But they emailed me back a few days after and said the car was not archived from the factory so they couldn't help. I am looking at redoing the interior and hope to find the build sheet under the back seat. I don't believe the material that is on it now would have come from the factory.

259 trim is Black custom interior. Pic looks white?
The Paint code looks like '1' which is special paint. Could be a Spring color which there were a few that year for 68.

Too bad PHS didn't have anything on it.

The interior is black. It just has a sun fade on the driver's side. I was curious about the material. I thought it was supposed to be vinyl and it's more of a felt. Same with the headliner

Also it's an I not a 1. The car is autumn bronze as I can see the original color around the trunk area

Seats would have been morrokide vinyl on the outskirts , and perforated comfortweave in the center.
Sorry about the PHS , it happens very rarely.

Check on top of gas tank too , for a Bsheet .
With the seats already re-done before probably not much chance of finding one in the seats.

I just got the correct Upholstery in yesterday. So I will be fixing that. I just had a 400 motor and th400 transmission rebuilt to go into it. I'm going to run an EFI system in the car so I'm buying a gas tank with a built in fuel pump. The gas tank will be coming out. So I'm hopeful, looking between the 2 places, that I can find something
