Edsel
Just saw an add on U* Tube for the New Lincoln Corsair. Why would Ford name a new car after an Edsel model ?

Because Ford is becoming the "Edsel" of car manufacturing./

The percentage of people today who know there was an Edsel model called the Corsair 65 years ago is pretty tiny. Taken by itself it's a perfectly fine name, much better than some of the made up nonsense names used for other cars.

Ironically, all four of the Edsel model names got reused: Corsair, Citation, Ranger & Pacer.

I think of the airplane, F4U Corsair from WWII. I like the name.

I forgot about the ship. There are many worse names of vehicles out there. I like the name Corsair. I think Lincoln has done a pretty good job on their vehicles the last few years.

I agree their vehicles are much improved in looks, feel, interior quality, touch points and handling. The two big issues with Lincoln is their very high failure rates and repeat repairs of the multiplexed electronic systems. It's just maddening for the owners of these cars. That in turn, makes their resale value very low. They lose 50% of their initial value in 3 years. A very good friend recently traded a really stripped down 2019 base model Honda Civic even up for a 2018 Lincoln MKZ 3.0L twin turbo Ecoboost. It had 30K more miles on it than the Civic but the Lincoln was a beautiful car and over 400 HP. But it does have a few annoying intermittent glitches.

Corsair just sounds to akin to Corvair
I couldn't do it |

They haven't built Corvairs for 55 years, so again the percentage of people today who know about them is pretty small.

Ford could get away using Model T again if they wanted .

Makes me wonder how Chevrolet got away with using the Edsel Citation name.
Did Ford neglect to renew the copyright?

Same way Ford used the Super Duty, expired no doubt.

When I hear "Rogue", I still think of Rambler, not Nissan.

Ford was using the Super Duty name first - after all, that's where those hood scoops came from.
