81 T/A in Texas at $12.5K NR. 350 Chevy crate engine. I'd rather have that than an Olds 403 or turbo, or whatever came in an 81 T/A.

69 Grand Prix in Nevada at $8.2K NR. How do so many people get the "400-4" sticker on the air cleaner wrong? Original blk/yel CA plates probably means it has zero rust.

67 Firebird 350 2BBL in Wisconsin at $2500 with a reserve. Says the motor was rebuilt 20 years ago, so it'll need to be taken apart and checked. No interior pics, which is odd? Maybe it's a rust bucket being from Wisconsin? What are Wisconsin cars known for?

69 Firebird 4-speed Trans AM tribute at $70K In Michigan. Nice looking car, but $70K? Builder prolly has that in it, but it's a tribute. If you can afford this, you can probably afford a real one. If you can't afford this (me), if I wanted it, I'd have to build it myself, which is the fun part. A 69 Firebird with a great body and intact interior can be had for <$20K. Any 350 car will do. Your budget for paint, interior and engine is $50K. Could you do it? Really nice car, but IMO has a select market.

How about a 1975 Astre Lil Wide Track? Now on BAT.
I actually looked at this car about 20 years ago, but passed on it as it was to slow and an automatic. I would have modified it https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-pontiac-astre/

75 T/A in CA at $5K NR. Way too much rust for me. If you needed a seized 75 engine... maybe. The undercarriage looks amazingly clean compared to the rust on top. The hood and trunk lid area are rusted, as are the quarters, but not what you'd expect with the clean floorboards. Was this rust caused by salty sea air on a CA car?

There's a group of collectors for anything. Case in point I found an old Dell "click key" keyboard in my basement years ago. It was new, made of metal back in about 88 in the USA. I was going to throw it away, but I put it on eBay and sold it for $1000. Things are worth what other people are willing to pay for them. If this car is a cream puff and worth the money, I'm not aware of those circles. Can anyone enlighten me on why you'd want this kind of car. I'd like to drive it, but prolly not own it. I guess it would get a lot of looks. Last edited by thews; 04-13-2024 at 12:11 AM. |

I am also a sucker for unique, and Astre's actually handle pretty well and are comfortable to me, the seating position fits my 5'10" frame well, and if they have the upgraded interior like this example does the bucket seats are actually the base seats for the same year Firebirds. If they don't have the upgraded interior they have the horrible Vega seats. This one even has the rare tilt column. Other than slow they actually drive very nice IMO.
I passed on it when I realized that it had the weaker 6.5" rear axle (as opposed to the not as weak 7.5") and all my spare parts are for the later 76-79 model year cars with the torque arm rear suspension so quite a few of the interior parts are unique to the 1975 model year cars, along with the rear suspension and brakes. But I was tempted by it. But the owner wanted around $5K for it back in the early 2000's and I thought that was way overpriced. So I passed. But it did drive very nice. Also the Vega engine was a turn off. I was used to 77-79 Astre/Sunbirds with either an Iron Duke or a Buick V6 under the hood.

69 Firebird CA at $36.5K BIN. The car has a lot going for it, but doesn't say much in the ad, like what engine this is? Gauges have been "upgraded" but the interior is very stock. You could sell the 400 hood and buy a T/A hood and make a clone out of it. The real knock on the car IMO is the body accent paint. The hood and tail panel, with rear stripe, just look wrong. Easy fix and price very reasonably IMO for a no rust car.

The ad copy reads like it is from an English Lit major who has never owned a car, let alone driven a vintage Pontiac:
"Step inside the cabin, and you'll be greeted by a range of amenities designed to enhance your comfort and convenience. The front bucket seats provide excellent support, ensuring a comfortable ride even during long journeys. The manual-crank windows offer a nostalgic touch, allowing you to enjoy the fresh breeze as you cruise down the open road. The driver-side rearview mirror provides excellent visibility, ensuring you have a clear view of your surroundings at all times." "Step inside the cabin"? Every damn Firebird/Camaro I has ever been in you fall into them... "The front bucket seats provide excellent support" sure they do - lawn chairs do far superior in the support department. "The driver-side rearview mirror provides excellent visibility" they are about the size of a playing card - only thing they are good for is showing the flashing blue lights behind you! |

Car looks like a cobbled together POS to me. Looks like a 5 year old recovered the seats.

Yup, what's with the door panel colors? Is the interior black or blue? Looks black but it could be the photo balance, I guess. With an LS and the dash it should be labeled a resto- mod. The interior looks like it had an Armor All bath recently.
