SD Performance Old Faithful
I see SD no longer has the OF1 cam in the on-line catalog. Is one able to order an original OF through any vendor using a OF1 cam card? What parameters not on the cam card are needed for ordering?

Comp Cams can make you that exact cam.... or change it in to any Lobe Seperation you would like.
Bullet Cams has almost that same lobes..... they also have some just a bit bigger on lift, or smaller on lift... |

You just need the grind # posted on the cam card, then call up CC and order it.

With cams like this is there any proprietary information left off the cam card that would be needed to place the order?

what's the advantage of 1.0 vs. 2.0?

The newer one uses xe lobes, a little faster ramp profile I believe.
Steve has posted the differences in the past. Believe he also has lobe numbers for both if ya want to order one. |

man any of these dang 455 or stroker pontiac combos are so retardedly fast that i really have to wonder about trying to make them a nudge faster by adding more valvetrain stress ... i want a lobe that is as soft and lazy as me! it's gonna go sideways no matter what you do ...

No. You just need the lobe numbers and the LSA you choose. All the lobes are published by CC so nothing is proprietary. OF 2.0 has lobes 3196/3123 which have a little more duration and lobe lift compared to 1.0.

The 2.0 version is for sure a bigger profile, and more aggressive.
This will require room for that much lift and pressures to keep thing under control at high RPM's. For "mild" set-ups and HR cam conversions I've had excellent success with much smaller lobes that don't work the valve train so hard. Both KRE and Butler offer HR cams with the smaller lobes. The cam card below is one KRE did for me years before Butler went that direction. Matter of fact until I provided Rodney with dyno charts showing how poorly the smaller tight LSA grinds there were using worked they didn't have a single offering with 112 or 114 LSA. Now most of what they offer are based on that deal. Anyhow, not trying to take any credit here, what is important is that there are some really nice retrofit HR cams available for our engines that don't require a lot of running room for the additional lift. It's also important to note that you can make great power, especially with factory iron heads without working the valve train really hard. The dyno chart below the cam card is from a pretty "basic" 455 with just under 10 to 1 compression and the larger 236/242 HR cam with the .347" lobes. Cliff interesting how the seat durations are the same split as the 0.050 is. Usually seat ends up broader than the 0.050 and less of a I/E split than most folks use!

AG is correct however based on my observations the OF 2.0 is ordered with "B' suffix codes.
When first introduced the OF 2.0 was "Secret Squirrel" material. Dave revised version of the Old Faithful cam was shipped without a cam card and with limited information provided. That information included the actual lobe lift and reported as 0.3910" intake and 0.4000" exhaust, as ta man mentioned here. With that and the .050" duration it's not hard to figure out the lobes it probably uses, If you presume they are ordered with a "B" suffix code. They are lobes 3196B and 3123B. .

A fwiw, for use with the OF 2.0 hydraulic roller cam Dave Bisschop has used the Comp Cams 26925 valve spring. It's a double spring that Comp Cams rates at 1.810" installed height with 141 lbs spring load.
Specs: 1.320 dia, 400 rate and either 1.070" or 1.100" coil bind, I've seen it reported with both numbers depending on the source. The Comp Cams valve spring chart for the 26925 spring indicates 145 lbs at 1.800" installed height. These number are reasonably close to the popular Crane 99893 spring as Dave Bisschop used it with the original OF cam. Dave stated it typically had 145-150 lbs at 1.800". And he noted it lost pressure after run in. .

Did you try emailing Dave? I just ordered one about a week ago from him after he checked with comp to see if they had any cores.

I spoke with Dave today and as Brut4 advised, he just needs to check with CC for the blank.
