At Charlottes 4 wide a couple weeks ago a monte Carlo went 10.91 @ 161 or 162. I believe Kevin K from Hughes Converters still holds the high mph record for the class. 10.90 @ 173 or 175. He won a Wally with that car in 4 separate classes with the same motor setup. Top Sportsman & all three .90 classes.

I figured this would be the year since the comp bonus is something well over $100k in Div 4-5&7. Might be some other divisions but that some serious dough.!

Congratulations on your win.
A few years back I raced a car like yours in a regular bracket race, I did not know a thing about that type of racing. I knew the racer was very, very good , he raced in Phoenix and won a bunch of contingency money in his time. His whole family races, 4 brothers and the dad. Ford guys, they pit next to us. So he comes home to Humboldt on vacation and brings his car and shows up at the track. I was running 10.90 that day and had a 10.91 dial. He rolls up next to me with the same dial so I thought cool, going to be a fun race. I had no idea how fast his car really was, but it was a tube frame T bird with a BIG 460. So the lights drop and I knew I cut a decent light, you can just tell you know. And I see his car take off with me......... then stumble, front end drops and I think " I got him !" all happy and run through the gears, foot on the floor ready to lift at the end so I don't break out. Finally thought I had beat that guy, never had before. I see his car in my rear view mirror as this little blip, way back there, getting bigger, and bigger and blows past me right at the stripe, I LOST running my dial with a sub .020 light !, he cut a .011. Ticket said loss was by some ridiculously small amount. Lots of zeros kinda deal It was the best loss I ever had, he was a great guy. The cool part for me was he told me he did not think he was going to catch my car. He thought he was going to lose. A compliment coming from a racer like him. One of his brothers drives for UPS and last week I was at a stop light and this UPS trucks door slides open and its him yelling at me "have you got that think back together yet ?". I gave him the thumbs up. Again, congratulations on your win. |
