I need round port 1-7/8 and don't want to use a tiny filter like with Dougs

For zero dollars invested you can more than likely get enough clearance to run the Doug’s headers with a normal sized filter. Doug’s are superior to the other brands when it comes to ground clearance and fit.

Does anyone know if these ceramic coated headers are coated on the inside too or just the outside. If they are only coated on the outside they can still rust from the inside out. I have a set of Indian Adventures 1-7/8 headers that I really like and I have Flowmaster merge collectors on them too. They are in decent shape but rusted some on the inside. I'm trying to decide if I should have mine coated or buy new ones already coated.

Mad Dog makes some very nice headers. I bought a set several years ago for my 65 LeMans and they did not fit. Even after denting the crap out of them they just wouldn't fit. I think it may have been partly because of the frame sagging. Anyhow I sent them back and he gave me a full refund. I was disappointed because they were very nice stainless headers.

Dougs are coated on the outside afaik. my 14 yr old dougs look great even where i scrapped them through the years taking them off etc.. i just bought a set of the round port head version and they do look, coating wise, the same as my old set.

Hedman used to make a nice set of tri-y headers for 1961-1964 big Pontiacs. Too bad they still didn't.

Those ARH headers are VERY nice. I have a little more than that in my Mad Dogs and they are mild steel 18 ga.
I bought 480$ merge collectors for them, and had them coated inside and out.
The ARH headers already have the merge collectors (worth significant torque) and are SS.
And my Mad Dogs have the rear tubes on both sides go out the fender well and around the frame !
Looks like the rear tubes all stay inside on the ARH headers.
Mine are probably a little bigger inside dia being 18 ga.
But those things are NICE and worth the 2K.

There was a thread a year or so ago about a guy fitting the cheap SS OBX brands on an early A body . Had to tweak a tube or two esp around stick Z bar.

For a company that has been making Pontiac headers forever ! And made them for many other company’s as a wholesaler. Go to Tubular automotive.
They made them for many major brands These were the original headers on my RAIV car back when Stephen Pontiac raced it. Great guys great prices.

Also mad dog made me some nice headers both great choices.
They were RAV also. Had one interference spot but the 5 ina bird is a tough header. Especially w really big tubes.

I would highly doubt any coated headers are coated on the inside. BTW, those are Doug’s on Butlers website.

You can run a full size filter with Doug's headers. The filter will go on with no problem on an automatic equipped car, but on a manual transmission car you will need to clearance the bellhousing ear on the passenger side and the filter will then go in.
