Arrow Wanted - A-body 8.5" Rear (‘71-‘72 Buick/Olds) local pickup in So Cal Only

Looking for a good used 8.5" 10-bolt rear axle assembly in working condition or even just a bare housing with or without axles. I have a 2.73 gear set and posi unit I want to install in it.

Must be from a '71-'72 Buick or Olds A-body with bolt-in axles (no C-clips) equipped with A9 tapered axle bearings.

Must be located in or near the So Cal/Los Angeles/San Diego area so I can pick it up, I'm not interested in paying to ship one of these.

If you have one of these and happen to be heading to So Cal for any reason I can meet you somewhere in So Cal that’s convenient for you and pick it up.

Please send me a PM if you have one for sale, thanks.

Franks doesn’t sell Olds or Buick part’s so that’s a no go.

I’m not looking for a complete rear end set up for racing with a spool and 3.73 gears and listed as rare so as to imply it’s worth a lot of money. Definitely close enough to me but again exactly what I don’t need.

Thank you for your help but still looking for something stock and fairly complete or a bare housing to put my 2.73 gears and factory posi into.

The second picture is the Buick/Olds 8.5 I have in my Tempest, note the T fitting bolt directly to the top of the housing.

Thanks again.

It's been awhile since I have seen an a body 8.5 for a 71-72 buick . A friend of mine has one in his 68 tempest.
In my 72 pontiac manual for a and g body doesn't list a 2:73 gear or an 8.5 differential for the 10 bolt maybe its an Olds good luck

The 8.2 would have come with a 2.78.

Corporate 8.5 had the 2.73.

The ad saying it has a 2.73 gear is almost certainly inaccurate. Note the cover has no indications it’s ever been removed to inspect the gears. If you’re simply turning the pinion yoke and counting the the turns to determine the ratio how could you tell if it’s a 2.73 or 2.78 ?

You can’t.

I already have purchased one about 15 years back from JD Race and I’m very happy with it.

Shipping back then was $200, I’m sure it’s at least double that now so I’m looking locally.

Once I procure the rear end housing and stock 28-spline axles I’ll have a local shop install my 2.73 ring and pinion and posi unit.
