John - When they sent me the sheet, it seems it wasn't exactly centered on the copier so the small boxes 'under' the 'ship to' box with Car Service didn't show up. Here it is.

John, I am confident about what I wrote regarding Car Service previously. Car Service would not have taken possession of the car, so they would not have been assigned a Dealer Code.
The Montebello location essentially acted as a Transfer Station whereby they took delivery of train loads of cars there then local delivered them by truck to multiple dealers who used their service. Reason I believe this to be true is the "other" LA dealer that also received a car thru Car Service. If Car Service had been a Zone Lot, it would have had a 24-99x dealer code, I have an example showing that in the San Fran zone. Likely, ALL deliveries to Chieftain Pontiac came thru Car Service in '64. |

Here are a few pictures I took of the LeMans around 1998, about a year after I purchased the car. The grille and bumper are missing because the two front fenders were just hung on the car with a couple of bolts.
I had taken all the front sheetmetal off the car and removed the engine and trans so I could clean and paint the firewall and frame rails. I rebuilt the front suspension using all new rubber bushings and ball joints, replacing the original front drum spindles with '69 GP spindles and 11" disc brakes. I also installed a hastily-rebuilt 325 HP GTO 389 79J engine and matching auto trans in the car to replace the very tired 326. I also repaired the passenger side footwell that had some rust due to a long-ago leaking heater core, using silver POR-15 and some fiberglass cloth. I did the same with the trunk floor, it was a bit thin from rust over pretty much all of it. In a couple of spots I used the fiberglass cloth to fill some holes about the size of a quarter. Note the accessory luggage rack bolted to the top of the trunk lid, not sure if it was a dealer item or added later by the owner. Either way, it's not going back on the car. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

.....for some much-needed attention.
How it sits as of today. ![]() ![]() I'm really liking the look of the thin whitewalls and dog-dish caps, tires are 215/70-14. ![]() ![]() ![]() One of two GTO hoods I have for the car. The other one's even nicer than this one. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the fresh '64 421 HO waiting for its chance to motivate the Le Mans.

You have a great project there with the convertible, the 421 376 HP engine, the auto trans, and the tall gear.
I had a chance to take some parts off of a 64 Le Mans A/C car many years ago. I wish now I would have bought the whole car as body wise it was in decent shape. Top was bad and floorboard were starting to develop a bit of rust. Rest of the car was solid. Tom V.

Finally on the road.
![]() A little rough around the edges but running perfectly and a lot of fun to drive. I’m slow but consistent. As in I take forever, patience is a virtue they say……whoever they are. ![]() New Legendary interior upholstery in the original Saddle is on order and about 7 months away, a new top will be installed soon. Heating and air conditioning systems on hold for now, the seal kits I need are on backorder. All good though, I’m a happy camper.
