Default 1964 turn signal cancelor

Hi guys:
My 64 grand prix turn signal stopped canceling after a left turn. I removed the steering wheel and found this, see picts. Also. In the bell I found a piece of spring steel stock.
Anybody repair or replace this type of cancelor? How do you remove this? How deep into the column do I have to go to repair this?
Is it better off left alone ?
Any and all help is appreciated.
Mario64

P.s.: don't know why the pict is sideways.

Is this a tilt column? It doesn't look anything like my 1964 non tilt column. Is anything broken on the cancelling cam?

It is a tilt. I can see where the steel piece broke. I just cannot figure out how to remove this cancelor.

If it is similar to a non tilt you unscrew the lever and wiggle the cancelling assembly back and forth while pulling it upward. It just slides out. I've had to pry gently with a screwdriver to unstick it. I can't see where your lever screws in.

It's been a day (okay, several decades), but my foggy recollection from when I had my '63 tilt out of the car (or at least the wheel pulled) was that it was essentially similar to the non-tilt in that regard. (The tilt column from '63-'66 is essentially the same, used across GM marques except Cadillac, which had their own.)

Goatracer:
The pict is actually 90 degrees out. in the pic the levers are actually at the bottom. Don't know why it loaded this way.
Thanks for everybody's help. I will keep all informed. BTW Frank's does not have the replacement part. Seems like it is as scarce as hens teeth.

Default Tilt column turn signal cancel cam

Those old GM tilt steering columns are at least 5 times more difficult to work on than a non-tilt column.

Most, if not all of the parts to a tilt are not the same as a regular steering column.

Years ago, those 1960s era full size Pontiac tilt columns were worth more in their parts than they were to try and sell whole.
A lot of people used to use some of the Big car parts to repair a broken A body tilt column which was much more valuable & easier to sell.

Very few people even know how to work on these columns. One of the last was CJ Lane of CJ's Rods & Machines, in Pfafftown, NC. CJ rebuilt my tilt, but passed rather suddenly shortly after (mine may have been the last column he rebuilt).

I don't know of any other guys right now who work on tilts of this vintage.

I reassembled everything and the jb weld is holding, for now. I did find an NOS and bought it in case the jb weld goes south. I hope my repairs can help others.
Thanks for all the assistance.

Great news, and a great find. My parts book no longer lists the number for that one (I have to get an older parts book, as this is very frustrating). Hopefully, you'll never need to swap them out, but at least now you're prepared. :-)

For the record, I found it at yesteryear antique auto parts, in Florida. He has a ton of parts, not cheap, but where else can you find it, when you need it. When I get the part I'll post the part number.
Thanks again for all the help.

Thanks for that!

Edit: Interestingly enough, Delco seems to indicate that that part number was superseded by 1968091. That part seems to be listed for 1963 & 1965 Buick w/tilt (not 1964) and 1963-1964 Cadillac w/tilt. IAC, I hope your JB Weld holds, and you can save your spare NOS one for some time.
