Geez. I’d be in the house till November.
I don’t do heat well, I had to put a window unit in my shop and running continuously. I don’t have to keep it cool, but it sure is nice with no humidity out there.

Tomorrow will be a few degrees warmer. I'll get an early start.

108-112 all this week. Sweating it out in the garage..I put in a new lock set this evening and installed some new adjustment screws in my headlight assembly. This weekend I need to redo the headlight grounds, install the headlights, the trunk lid needs adjusting, I need to install the taillights, rear trim, and back bumper, then clean the paint up a bit. We’ll see how much of that I get done before I retreat to the AC.

Plan on getting the hoist out of storage today and removing the new engine for my 62 from the back of the truck.

Cleaning work area will be about the extent of it today. I get to a point that I can’t take it anymore. I know there’s a workbench under all this crap!!

I get all my stuff done between October and march. Rebuilt the front end on my truck over the winter outside, work in the garage without any heat.. when I can see my breath, I’m in my happy place!

Default Lots of cleaning

This morning I did a detailed cleaning of the engine compartment on my 1962 Tempest wagon. See the before and after pics below. Also cleaned exterior and wide white wall tires.

Last summer I finished insulating my garage/shop. In December I ran heat/AC ductwork out to the garage. A couple weeks ago I ran a second set of ductwork. See last pic.
Even when the temperature reaches over 100F, the highest the temp in garage has gotten is a cool dry 80F. The 2 sets of ductwork cost me less than $200 at Lowes.

Default Norwalk Road Trip

So had the snowball effect happen. Took the 67 into the AC guy and the water pump went out. The engine was painted the wrong color when I bought it so it snowballed from there. New pump, hoses, ps hoses, chrome valve covers, air cleaner, aluminum radiator and engine repaint and detail all happened over the 4th and 5th. She’s ready to go now.

Took my wheels in to have my new MT drag radials mounted. Same size as my BFGs, 255/60 15.

I've started messing around with my Dragy. But the combination of bad tires, bad surface and bad driver (me), means bad results. Now at least I'll have better traction and hopefully more consistency. I'm also thinking that for measuring tuning effects, I'll probably do some custom runs from a rolling start, something like 20-30 mph going up to 80-90 mph so it won't be as hard on the car and the tires. That will also eliminate my bad launch technique from the equation.

Finished reading the owners manual of my 1926 Pontiac, which I trailered home Tuesday.

Just took my first drive with the MT drag radials. Wow! What a difference. I didn't do any launches or timing with my Dragy, just a relaxed cruise. But I did a couple rolling starts in 1st gear that would have literally fried the BFGs, and these things hooked pretty darn good. Very little spin, just go. Felt good cornering on a windy road too. Tomorrow I'll do some dragy tests.

I picked up a Dragy a while back too, but it hasn't been too helpful with the GTO. Like you, traction is the main issue

I've been eyeing a set of MTs in prep for a trip to the track at some point. Need to pick up some 15" wheels to mount them on.

Would like to hear some reviews on the Dragy from you guys once you get things sorted out and get a few good runs. Maybe start a thread in the Street forum if you’re so inclined.

A pair of easy to find and inexpensive 15x7 Rally II wheels would accommodate some 235/60 or 255/60 drag radials and work pretty well.

I’m seriously considering getting one to see how my 421 convertible does. When I was thrashing it a bit from zero to about 90 in an effort to seat the rings it doesn’t really break traction from a standing start with the 2.56 open rear.

It should be consistent but not all that quick, if it breaks into the high 13s I’d be ecstatic.

Yeah, once I get a little more experience with it I'll post something in the Street section. The tires are a major improvement, but after some more launches and roll ins today, I can still break them loose so they're not the silver bullet I hoped they'd be. But still, much, much better than before.

One thing I will say now is that I don't think it's possible to duplicate track times on street surfaces no matter what you do. So if you think you'll get a Dragy to see what your car will do at the strip, think again. The exception to that would be if you have a car that doesn't break traction on street surfaces.

And for those of us who don’t intend on going to the track or worse don’t even have one within a reasonable distance can use the Dragy to at least get an idea and use it to compare their cars to others.

Knowing what it actually can do on the street is just fine because that’s where we’re going to be, as least 99.999 percent of the time anyway.

Yes, I completely agree with that. It still has a LOT of value for tuning. Plus, it's just pain fun.
