Are you making the entire steering wheel or just the grip?
I spoke with a steering wheel guy that said touching the wheel itself was not an option because of DOT requirements but he could do the grip? Do these need to be certified? |

The steel core of the wheel is not changing in diameter or thickness or strength. All that is done is the plastic around it is recast. For these wheels, one might consider the entire outer ring "the grip," as these wheels generally have finger grips all the way 'round.
Hard to imagine that this would have any impact on DOT requirements.

It was just a curiosity. I wanted to get my grip recovered and asked the guy if he redid the entire wheel. He said that DOT came down on him and that he was only allowed to touch the grip part and not the wheel itself as far as restoration goes. Sounded kinda silly to me but...................................

FWIW, it seems that email address for Magnus is no good. My email bounced as unable to locate the MX for the domain (that's the receiving mail server or firewall).
I'll follow up if/when I locate a better contact email for him. Sorry to disappoint.

Koch also can do 67-68 LeMans GTO deluxe wheels now.
I just spoke with them and verified it. So 64 65 66 67 68 deluxe are do-able @ $600 each recast Would 67 Bird Deluxe not match up to 67 GTO Deluxe ? And seems like 67 wood rim would be applicable to 65-66 wood rim too. Current list : Pontiac 1940 Pontiac 1941-1948 Pontiac 1951-1953 Pontiac 1954 Pontiac 1957 Pontiac GTO & Lemans 1964-1965 Pontiac GTO 1966 Pontiac 1966 Clear Pontiac 1967 Top Clear Pontiac 1967 Simulated Wood Pontiac 1967-1968 |

Cammer , how many 68 Bird wing down deluxe core wheels do you have ?
Out of pure speculation I am going to guess that once a proper recast mold was made - perhaps any 67 68 deluxe 3 spoke wheel could be recast as a 68 Bird WingDown Wheel ? |

I'm guessing the 67 Top Clear has the 67 Bird & Full Size covered.

revisiting this to see if anyone has updates.
BVZ from what I remember 67 Firebird early had clear on the deluxe upper half But it was slightly smaller than big car. I think the clear upper disappeared last few months. Im currently tooling up to see if its feasible, local mold makers are just too expensive for only a few units.

67 Firebird has 2 Deluxe wheels.
It doesnt state in the parts book if a wheel has clear portion, but im going to stick my neck out and say the one listed as same as 67-8 A body 16 inch is the solid color, as Ive never seen 67 or 68 A body with any clear portion. The other Deluxe wheel for 67 F birds is shown as 16.5" so Im guessing its the one with clear upper portion. This is not the same as the big car 67-8 Deluxe, which did have a clear upper portion. 68 Firebird Deluxe wheel is unique for year and model, shares no parts I would like to find a 67 FBird 16.5 inch clear upper wheel to see if any can be made.
