I purchased a used power steering assembly from a fellow PY'er. I checked the parts and did a cursory cleaning of the parts. After installing it was a little sketchy and after a while it worked very good. Now 2 weeks later there is no assist to the steering. I looked inside the reservoir and there was some crud on the filler walls. Is there a good way to flush and/or filter the pump?

The main way to do a flush is, with the engine running, suck out the fluid in the reservoir with a pump, then add fresh fluid. Then add fresh fluid, cycle the steering lock to lock a few times, suck the fluid out of the reservoir again. You do this multiple times until the fluid in the system is clean. Tedious, but that’s the simplest way I know to do it

You are a brave man to run an unknown pump on a happy steering box.
Sometimes both will then require a rebuild.
In the olden days, used pumps & boxes were easy to pull at the local yard.
No so much any more and modern remans are a crap shoot.

i did find a you tube video and that's basically it said so that's what I'm doing.

Remove the return hose from the pump and angle it into a container. Plug the port on the pump. Idle the engine and keep adding fluid to the pump until it comes out of the return hose clean.
