Thought I would update a few things. Since the last post was awhile ago, I had the fans upgraded on the cooling system to Derale 16 inch fans and they flow 4,000 cfm. Another item upgraded was the whole car was rewired using American Autowire. The last item is the rear suspension. Goodbye leaf springs, Hello bolt on 4-link and coilovers. Ridetech is the system used. Here are some pictures of the rear suspension in stages.

That is correct the kit uses the original leaf spring mounts for the lower bars.

It will be about 1.5 months. Other items are on the list and then it is off to the body shop.

I knew Ridetech changed their 4-link set up, but I didn't realize how extensive the changes were. Wow. Here's a photo of the previous version we installed on my son's '79 Y84 project...nothing attaches to the frame rails. We're still a couple months away from first start up. I can't wait to see how this bolt-on system compares to the weld in DSE system I used on my '70 Formula. If it's anywhere close, we'll be thrilled.

This is a copy of something in the street section. I'm reposting it here to keep it all together.

New Paint Job, Total Rewire of car, bigger cooling fans that you can hear go on when I go to the front of the car. Both fans are Rallye 16" and pull 4,000 cfm. New overflow reservoir for radiator was installed along with Autometer gauges for oil pressure and water temperature. The gauges were installed in the spot where the 8 track tape player would go. Dynamat was installed for sound purposes. Last item was a Ridetech bolt in 4-link installed to run coil overs and BMR anti-sway bar was installed upfront. A Ridetech rear sway bar was installed as part of the 4-link kit. Also, major work was done on the rear exhaust so the tailpipes would look stock placement.

I can't compare it to the DSE system like you can, but I have a feeling it will be 75% to 80% of the DSE system. The comparison I have is to the stock setup. It is a difference of night and day. It really handles well with the solid mounts Race car stuff) and no rubber mounts in the kit at all. My mechanic and I seem to feel the back end is making the front end feel a little loose now as opposed to the original setup. Therefore, to get the loose feeling gone we are going to see if a WS6 steering box will fit. Have to check the clearance with the new fans before we do anything. If my memory is right the original steering box is the '73 T/A is three full turns lock to lock as opposed to the 2.5 turns lock to lock on the WS6 steering box. This should get the quick response feel back.

We installed a Borgeson 800130 steering box in my son's car, which I believe is very similar to a WS6 box. It just about kisses the 3" thick fan shroud we're running (have SPAL brushless fans, which are set into the shroud). Are you running factory front suspension?

The items changed are the upper and lower control arms to tubular and have QA1 coilovers. Everything else is stock suspension up front.

The interior is pretty much the same, but with some differences. The original 8-track tape player had to be left out and put into storage since the addition of the Dynamat made it impossible to reinstall the 8-track unit. It worked out anyway, since the area where the 8-track unit took up space was necessary room for the aftermarket Auto Meter gauges for the water temperature and oil pressure. Had trouble with the factory temp gauge. Changed it three times with no success of getting it to work properly. The items not mentioned before is the change in the sound system. The Kenwood receiver was reused and it was in the car when purchased. The changes include the package tray speakers are Kicker 6x9 triaxles and the speakers in the rear seat arm rests are Kicker 6x6.5 coaxles. The front stock location contains 2 Kicker 3.5 inch tweeters. Last has a 400 watt amplifier added to the mix.

Here are the latest upgrades to the '73 T/A:

I want to thank Gator67 for this one. Upgraded the steering box with the Borgeson 800130 unit that he suggested when I commented the front end seemed loose with the install of the Ridetech bolt-in rear 4link. I can say that the loose feeling is now gone. The front and rear feel like they are connected. I took the car thru some curves and it felt great. Thanks Gator67!

The next upgrade was for safety reasons. I was on the way back home and had a panic stop. Almost didn't make it. The brakes felt fine in normal driving, but when I needed it the most I couldn't even lock the wheels up. I had a false sense of security from the way the brakes performed under normal conditions.

What was added is a Leed Brakes vacuum pump. It is called the Black Bandit. I now have a constant 20 pounds of vacuum for just the brakes. Now the wheels can be locked up when I performed a panic stop. The other advantage is now the engine will not be bleeding vacuum and will run more efficiently.
