It's just a month away for some great pure stock action at the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Races at Mid-Michigan Motorplex near Stanton, Michigan! Please see the PSMCDR website (www.purestockdrags.com) if you need to see the rules if you are bringing a car to race and have a ton of fun. Open to spectators on Friday (qualifying) & Saturday (race day). Dan, Lyndon and I hope to see a lot of the Pontiac (and PY) faithful there!

Wasn’t there a 1968 Firebird 400 RA that ran them all down several years back?

Yes, Rick Mahoney's and the late Jim Mino's '68 RAII Birds. Both ran in the 11's.

11 Days and counting
We hope to see and meet PY folks if you come to the race (with a car to run would be awesome!). We're always at the tech table next to the staging lanes, so easy to find. Stop by to introduce yourself (if we haven't met yet). You can't mis the white Ford dually with the white trailer with 2 blue awnings over the tables.
I may be bringing a special Pontiac to race...or at least get a few time trials in... Dennis |

The weather looks like it is going to be great for the end of summer drag racing, nice and warm with highs in the low to mid-80's, and no rain! We hope to see lots of muscle car fans in the lanes and in the stands. It's the best car show on the planet.

Post Race Wrap-Up
The weather couldn't have been better (sunny, mid-80's, barometer in the low 30's, and a tailwind of 10-15 mph); 126 cars entered for the race, and of those, at least 22 Pontiacs (3 - 1st Gen Firebirds; 7 - 2nd Gen Firebirds; 4 - 1st Gen GTO's; and 8 - 2nd Gen A-bodies). There were 2 Test & Tune Pontiacs, a '69 Custom S and a '73 Lemans GT that ran only on Friday.

Does someone have the option to only run Friday? Is that what Test and Tune means?

I was shocked that the Custom S weighed almost 4100 lbs with me in it (I didn't gain weight, did I?), and not doing anything special to the tune (stock distributor weights & springs...very slow curve) and letting in shift itself in Drive (4800-5000 rpm shift points) it ran a best of 15.47 at 91.5 mph. The trans started slipping on the 1-2 shift quite badly, so I made only 2 runs. Dennis Last edited by SD455DJ; 09-17-2024 at 07:46 AM. |

John, I don't know since we (Dan, Lyndon, and myself) were too busy running the event to watch any of the racing. We do have the results of all the runs, but Dan is busy now putting it all in a spreadsheet to go on the website.
Maybe Paul will see this a share what he ran (I suspect 12.60's). Dennis Last edited by SD455DJ; 09-17-2024 at 01:42 PM. |
