Well, that fixes that - these are the pics.
After the thermal event/dead short, the wiring is repaired and loomed and the starter (A or B) are ready to go back in the '67. Picked up a new ACD gold, thinking, I'd feel pretty stupid if the original starter motor STB on me. (I ain't 19 and 120 lb any more...) Only issue - I looked at the starter noses, and there is a difference in piinon depth. New ACD is flush- can't see pinion looking straight down; original protrudes about .250" looking straight down Taking a suggestion from a friend, had both tested at the auto parts store, watched them both cycle several times with excellent numbers. So: is there an issue, here? ACD part number checks out, (thought it might be a 'universal') but concerned about pinion engagement. OR is the old one right? Or are they both okay? A side by side comparison would be helpful. Snouts may be physically different. Changing out ONCE is enough for me!!
Why not take a couple extra weeks and have your original starter rebuilt (restored)? "Bill"! |

Here are better shots of the respective noses:
The original GM, approx 150K miles on the clock, thermal event survivor: New ACDelco Gold Reman: You can see the differences in the depth - never did this repair before, so please excuse the noob-level questions. I really need to get the car lit and moving under its own power, would love to get the OE done over, will do anyway. |

The main dimension would be the 'out' distance when the starter is engaged.
(to engage the flexplate/flywheel)
