He told me it was show quality, but if he had just left it alone it would have been worth more with the original patina. I don't like the VIN scribbled on the hood, but I do admit it looks cool just like it is. I think the black plates are reissues. The front end pic shows a blue plate that appears to have been issued from the mid 70's. Also has a plate frame from Silveria Pontiac in Healdsburg CA. Car was probably traded in/sold from there in the mid 70's.

I like original paint cars... but thats a little too rough for me.

I've seen a lot worse, but not many as original as this car is. The hood on this car has to be worth around $15K. All the Ram Air stuff is also there. The driver's quarter panel has been hit and the ad doesn't show any close ups of it. I also wonder how old is the hood tach? You can see the driver's quarter damage somewhat in this picture. It was hit so hard they cut the rear spoiler off.

I have a new theory on muscle cars. If new car production shifts to some alternative fuels or EV, the infrastructure to pump gas will stay for years in transition, as it's bound to happen eventually. For now, I think muscle car prices are holding steady and may go up if gas prices come down. Anyway, 68 Firebird convertible in Pennsylvania at $30K BIN OBO. Has bondo in many places and a poor paint job, along with a yellow intake and some stuff that needs a tweak. On the good side, the interior looks good and the steering wheel is beautiful. If you weren't that particular this would make a fine driver if it runs well. You could probably talk the price down, but at what point are hitting the value of what it is worth, vs. what's wrong with it?

Fun car to gawk at. 69 Grand Prix Model J 4-speed in Indiana with 64K miles at $71K OBO. That's a lot of money. Supposedly one of 177. Nice looking car with a beautiful interior. Even if it's just an optical illusion, a little green splashed in the center of the Rally II's looks good. $5352 retail price is getting up there. Think of the engine you could have picked for the $300 spent on AC.

73 Trans AM 455 4 speed in Nebraska with 90K miles with a reserve not met. Rust on the hood makes it look like original paint, which is telling of the body. The undercarriage looks nice enough? Interior looks very nice. I love the look of the factory unrestored honeycombs. I used to comb junkyards in CA and one of the batch of things in my hoard is a pile (12) of the factory 14" honeycombs. I always thought they were cool, and they really look awesome on a 69 Firebird. They didn't come out until 71, and of course the 15" honeycombs perform better, but the 14" look the best IMO. The 69 I'm keeping is a palladium silver 69 Firebird, so that's where the best 4 will wind up. It has Rally II's now, but I plan on putting on hubcaps too just to change up the look.

Nice looking car, price looks a bit rich. What a shame it’s a 400 car, especially that it has a 4speed. For that money it should have a factory shift knob. Looks really solid original underneath. Engine has incorrect 428 air cleaner (400’s had a black small snorkel air cleaner with no chrome dress). Oddly someone added the reclining passenger seat, not on the invoice.

As for value what would this car be worth as a 400 automatic in this nice condition? 20-25? So does a 4 speed double it?

Good catch on the reclining passenger's seat option. What a weird option to pick. I added a tilt column and a 1980 Trans AM WS6 steering box to my 69 Firebird convertible. Adding factory options is always adding value to the car IMO. If it's a NM trailer queen, probably not, but a car like this I think it's cool. I just sold a set of 69 Firebird "Speed minder" gauges. It was the lowest option of all of them at around a total of 200. Not really sought after, but something you hardly ever see. I've only seen one 69 Firebird with the factory stacked gauges, and it's the one option that really is unique and gets my attention.

To your point I agree. A car like this isn't double an automatic, but I'd put this car in the high 20's if it were an automatic. One of 177 isn't many, so supply and demand would dictate its value. Some sellers ask high prices and then take a lower offer which is where they really wanted to be, letting the buyer think they got a killer deal.

It's a knob sticking out of the speedometer that sets where it beeps. Kind of a cool option actually, if you tended to speed a lot it may save you.

It was an option that where you could set a predetermined schedule speed at which you’d get a buzz if you exceeded that speed. The option also included a low fuel warning light.

It was optional on all Pontiacs that year. There are six versions possible. A Firebird one with the 160 speedo, the A body version with a 120 speedo, the GP version with a 140 speedo and three versions on the fullsized cars: with basic cluster, with extra warning light option and with custom gauges. Note that except for the full sized version you couldn’t get the speed warning with the gauge option.
