Hello folks. Brand new member with a question.
Back in the day, I owned a 1964 GTO that was traded in and later a 1972 GTO 455HO that was totaled, then rebuilt with a salvage title.

I'd really like to see if I could track them down, particularly the 1964. The only information I have is the 1964 VIN. I realize that this is pretty much a fools errand that I'll never find, but heck, I'm retired. I've got nothing but time.

But where to start? Any tips?

You need to ask yourself if you your willing to wait a good number of years to find even one of these two when you could be enjoying them much sooner by purchasing ones that where never yours.

Maybe a title service that specializes in getting titles for cars with little to no paperwork could find them in whatever old records they have access to.

There’s private detectives that might be able to track them down as well.

I know that there is one called 'Lost Musclecars' that has been fairly effective at reuniting guys with their previous rides.

It's a good suggestion, but I've found I need a personal connection to really appreciate the car. Thanks for your wise advice though.

A connection/ bond is made by using them, driving them , washing and waxing , going to cruse nights and such!

Get one and use it and all your memories will return in short order even though the sheet metal and cast iron around you was not originally yours.

Who the heck knows how long we will even have fuel to run these cars on.

Get something now and get 7 to 10 years of fun and good times out of it while you can.

Perhaps acquire something now on a “bridge” or interim basis to enjoy while you simultaneously “Columbo” out your former ‘64 and or ‘72. Kinda “have it all” or as Bo Jackson might counsel “BOTH”.
