I did and hardly got any response. Figured since my car is so close to Dennis's car it was a good place to talk. I've really enjoyed it and he is willing to offer advice.

I forgot to post my new PBT with the Tempest at this years FAST race at Martin US131 Raceway Park this past May 10th. I drove the car to the track this time, instead of trailering it (130 miles round trip) and didn't touch it, other than adding 5 gallons of 110 race fuel. The weather was cool (63 degrees) and dry, but with a headwind out of the north of 15-20 mph. This was a last minute decision to go, so we promptly forgot our carb kits with all the secondary metering rods & jets, spark plugs, and the corresponding 13/16” socket (we could of sworn it was in there…!). So, the spark plugs (AC-R45S) that were in it for the dyno session back in 2019 and 2022 FAST race stayed in it. We didn’t touch the timing, but did check it…38 degrees, dwell was fine. The DA was around 1300’ despite the cool temps.
We were just there for the day and the Tempest ran a best of 13.151 at 102.79 mph into the headwind. Ran a 13.20 earlier. It only turns 4800 rpm through the traps with the 3.42 gears. It really needs some 3.73’s or 3.90’s, a looser front end, and loose 150 lbs. to run quicker. The TH400 upshifts automatically at 5600 rpm and ran 185 degrees max on the drive. Dennis |

What is your method. to get such a good 60' time?

Kent, We pump up the front tires to 45 lbs. to reduce rolling resistance and the rears to 35-40 lbs. for the most consistent tread patch from a small burnout at the tracks back-40 return roads, not to mention less rolling resistance down the track. I just power brake to 1200 rpm to reduce wheel spin (it will go up in smoke mashing the throttle off idle) by reducing convertor flash. The track is prepped with 'glue' and I try to find a fresh area that hasn't been used-up by cars ahead of me. With more work to the front suspension, the 60' times could be in the 1.85 area easily. A lot of racers at the Pure Stock Drags are in the low 1.80's/high 1.70's on repop belted tires.

Cool, that is impressive. Sounds like fun.
What do you run for a convertor? |

It has a tight 10" Continental convertor built for a 461 with 550 lbft. of torque, so it feels like a stock convertor (13") behind a 406 with only 450 lbft. torque. It breaks the tires loose at 2200 rpm power braking it. I will be swapping in a factory 13" convertor to see if there would be any difference in the launch. It's tight in all driving situations and tugs into gear like a stock convertor, not to mention creeps at idle like a stock convertor.
