Procomp electronics and speedmaster have many of the same part numbers and same company address.
Why wouldn’t a copy of something known to work, not work? Depends on how well it was copied. I’d say SM did a decent job copying. But let’s not give them more credit than they have due. |

OK, maybe I am wrong about the association between Pro Comp and Speedmaster

Edelbrock actually changed a lot. Valve location, port size, port shape, outer casting appearance, to list a few. SM pretty much just copied Edelbrock.

KRE used to use the Wenzler Super Chief head in the old days and kind of copied it with their High Port head.
Pretty much killed the SC head. A friend of mine has a set of SC heads on a awesome tube frame 69 Judge with IA2 block. He says the SC heads are kind of soft; He does not push the car too hard, does really well bracket racing. Toned it down a bit, its never on kill. |

I purchased a set of SpeedMaster78 PCE281.2168 . Flat tappet Hyd. They have been fine. I have had no issues in the year since a put them on. I made no modifacations. They are on a 461 cid Pontiac Eagle rotating assembly. 10.2:1 with 1.65:1 roller rockers. That gives .528 lift with 13/32" ram air pushrods and 7/16" studs. Also had to change head bolts and go to round port headers. This motor just run great. I use a 1/2 a bottle octane booster every tankful. I don't know what the actual horsepower is but you hardly need the gas pedal!

the 2 sets i ordered last year just came back from Randy Repp. mine are the cnc version from last year.
1 set is done for a solid roller upto .770 lift with comp springs and I think Si valves is his house brand. there going on my old but new to my son's 455 with a 271/279 @.050 ultradyne solid roller on a 104 lsa....bought from Jack Ferris ions ago lol. i had my set done with the stock out of the box edelbrock valves from a extra set of o ports i bought and his house brand springs for hydralic roller good to over .700 lift although ill be in the 600 range. my set will be going on my budget built studded 2 bolt .030 400 bme rods and ross pistons...im not sure what to expect out of them on the 406 but i plan to run the voodoo 713 cam and a 871 on it an see how she goes. this will be with a bug catcher converted to efi on e85/ methanol |

Blueprint Engine's SBC tach drive distributor takes all MSD parts, but is "ready to run". Advance mechanism, rotor , cap. I think MSD is outsourced off shore now too and not in El Paso TX
