I imagine a lot of us wish we would have or could have grabbed one of them.
Is anyone building a 65 GTO prototype test car with 2x4 induction ? |

I’m sure if John got enough orders he would order more castings.I think he had to get 10 at a time.Tom

Baron, that’s what I’m looking to do with mine. I have a 65 421 block and heads that still needs to be built. Hopefully I will be able to fit air cleaners under the hood of my GTO with the bathtub. I think if Pontiac was going to do a 2x4 prototype test car the manifold would have been more of a low rise for hood clearance and air clearance. My idea is more of a home built day 2 street racer car. In other words, what if Pontiac offered the bathtub manifold over the counter for 65 and up heads. Anyone could buy it and put it on any car they wanted.

The demand for the 61-64 heads was not that great.Im sure if you had a late style head on your your 62 as I do you could have a intake in short order.Tom

These units were custom built. They were only sold by the maker.Innova Engineering in Santa Ana CA is the maker.John Cogger is a member on this site.He is making and selling the Pontiac underhood LS blower systems being shown on this site.Over the years there have been 3 reproductions on the Bathtub intakes. There was one for sale on this site, not sure if its still avail.Tom

The early style intake had lesser demand and I think they only made 1 batch run of them on this particular latest project .
And that was it. Those have all been sold now . And no more planned The 65-up style , I think they made 2 batch runs. And no plans to do anymore of those either. Look for all the posts by member darbikrash to see the timeline of events. You can post a "Want to Buy" listing in the various WTB parts sections. But don't deal with any fresh-new members behind the scenes in private messages. The newbies are usually scammers. Fair Warning about due diligence. |

What would be the best late model heads for my 62 GP 421 if no 127 heads are used. What heads did you use. Thanks for all the info. |

I run a set of 980s on my 63 421 Lemans with a Johnson-Zajack repo Bathtub,om my 62 GP I run 96 heads on a 63 HO block with the mule Randy Williams intake. It was originally a early style design. After we confirmed the fit we 3D scanned it and made a plastic intake to confirm the scan.I then sent it to Jim Robertson in TX and he converted it to a late style as Randy designed the casting to be used for early or late.Jim had to raise the ports .250 to mate with the late ports and also converted the water X over.Got it back,3D scanned it and made a plastic intake to confirm the fit.I then put it on my 62 with a pair of 62-63 Pontaic SD NASCAR 750 Carter AFBs.There are lots of late Dport heads that would work depending on CI.Good luck with your project.Tom

You could run big valve heads up to a certain point of valve lift with small valve reliefs in the 421 style pistons. Tom is saying he used big valve heads 1971 #96 , with 96cc chambers (if stock). If he did a full fresh build -- he probably used new pistons with proper larger valve relief size. |

Does anyone know of a 421 SD block that is serviceable. Had one that turned out to be unserviceable. Ready to buy immediately.

Why a SD block?Just get a nice 65 or later 421 or 428 block so you can use a block mounted starter.Buying a 421 SD block is just a complete waste of money.Or just get a good 400 block and use a aftermarket 4in stroke 3in main crank in it.Tom

Hi all - new to site. I still have a 1974 GTO since college '84, which now has 468 (bored and stroked 455) , 310 cfm ported Kaufmann D ports, Edeldbrock Performer RPM, 850 Holley Comp cam, M20 4sp, etc. I am interested if there's another production run of the 65 up style Pontiac 2 x 4 bbl bathtub intake.
Collected early SD parts since 84 - ported 544127 heads, 54299 2 x 4 intake, SD balancer - 62. Plan to use on 400 block ( 421 stroker) in future at some point. Thanks ! Jim |
