Waiting on some front bumper parts for my 67 GTO......hopefully will show up today or tomorrow. Also trying to figure out the pulley situation for the new engine that is going in my 62 GP.

Shop night at the school. We removed the weird old dual setup with Flowmaster 40s from the Ventura and got about 70% of the way done installing a new Pypes system with turbo mufflers. Fits pretty well, although the tail pipes and associated hangers are giving us some trouble. It's like threading a needle going between the factory sway bar mounts on the body and the rear leaf spring mounts. So glad we had a lift to do this! Cole's going to try to get it together enough to drive home tomorrow so we can finish it up this weekend.

The Portuguese are world class when it come to bureaucracy, hence a lot of "side" businesses. Down the street from me is a mechanico.
He does not speak English but between Translate and my rudimentary Portuguese he came down to examine the old girl and noted she had spark and fuel. He told me to wait a few hours for his son, who is an avid offroader and speaks good English. We decided that I would get a charger and see what happens in the morning, as GM ECM's are quite sensitive to voltage.

Late morning arrives (7 hour jet lag), and the old girl fires right up!

Loudly. As somewhere in the shipping process they used a forklift (scratches on muffler) and damaged the exhaust. I hope they did not bend the driveshaft too. I still need to find insurance for it, ACP most likely, so rolling down the road will have to wait a bit.

Now she needs a bath - badly.

It rolled over 70k miles today!

After we installed the new exhaust on the Ventura, I went to install the T/A tips we bought and realized that you need a different set of tail pipes to make them work. So I bought the Pypes kit for the T/A extensions and fought in vain tonight at the school shop for 3 hours to get the new tail pipes to fit but no dice. I couldn't get the splitter tail pipes forward enough to catch the stock hanger location.



The other option I considered is to cut the tail pipes that came with the original kit so the spitters exit closer to the rear wheel, but I don't like how low they hang. I'd prefer for the splitters to peek out from under the quarter like they're supposed to.

We should probably just drop the whole system and refit everything starting with the correct splitter tail pipes.

Ken, Here's the Pypes exhaust system on my former '74 GTO. The tips weren't low enough in my opinion (maybe an 1" lower to expose more dual pipe). It needs a bit of finagling to fit properly and the rears were the worst to make fit in the limited space...lots of cutting, welding and swearing...with the transverse muffler. I'm not sure the tips are in the factory position either. It's a challenge to make those big mandrel pipes fit well. This system is 10 years old now!

Thanks Dennis. We don't have the transverse muffler on ours, but it's still been a PITA to get this system to fit. In particular the bends around the rear sway bar mounts and around the rear fender well. The brackets on the splitter tail pipes are bent different than the ones that came with the original kit. This complicates things since it moves the connection point to inner tail pipe forward making it necessary to either install the tail pipe hanger in a new location or move the mufflers forward. Silly me thought I could just swap the tail pipes out! The system is a smidge off center so my OCD wants to drop the whole thing and refit it.

He's been using the Ventura as his daily driver which is pretty cool to see but limits the time we can put it up on jack stands for bigger projects. We did have an incident the other night where the float got stuck on the carb and I had to come rescue him. That was my fault as I just went thought the carb and the needle hanger clip got bound up in float pivot.

I pulled the drivers seat out of my '74 Formula and took it over to my upholstery to get repaired.

Couple days ago had to take the 62 GP off the lift to have it worked on.Ran like crap,I suspected the rear carb was running over so got it parked to work on it another day which was this AM.Pulled the top off the rear carb,when I rolled it over one flote was higher than the other?WTH?Pulled the needle and fouls this little dot of crap holding the needle off the seat

Got it all cleaned out,put it back together,started right up,idles well!Took it for a little drive and all is good in my world!Tom

Where did that piece come from?

I think from the rubber hors when pushed over the aluminum fuel line.Im betting I did not clean the edge good enough.Tom
