Need a little help. Need to confirm correct bumper bolts for 68 GTO (top ones that bolts bumper to bracket). Picture is of the one Ames sells. Listed as 68-72 but packages says 70-72. The washer is concaved with a serrated edge.

Also attached is picture of heater vent below dash. Has anyone seen one like this? It looks like it has been there quite a while. It is unlike the ones on my other 68s. The 68 RA convertible 4 speed was built first week of November 1967 (11A).

Thats what I thought too. However this car did not come with the 8 track. I purchased from original owner family and talked to the original owner in person. It looks like it has been on there a long time. Car was a very early build and I have found some other anomalies. Some of the piercings on the firewall for mounting horn relay, hood bumpers, wiring brackets are not there. Car has 55,000 original miles on it. I looked to see if there was a hole on the box for the screw that holds the "normal" vent and there is not one. The only attaching point is on the opposite side of the box. Wonder if it was a factory "mistake". The car did come with the AM-FM stereo radio but that would not have affected this vent. Thanks for responding.

This is the only photo I have showing the bolts. I'll go through my coffee cans and see if I still have the originals.

That answered my question. The bolts from Ames (in the picture I posted) come with a concave serrated edge washer. The washers I took off are the flat thick ones like in your picture. I think the washers in the Ames kit are for the bracket to frame bolts. I will put my original washers back on. Hate this repop stuff!

Also I think I figured out why my car has the lower heater vent for a car with 8 track (which my car did not come with). I recalled the original owner told me he did not like the 68 "plastic looking" console. He had traded in a 65 GTO convertible on this car (Iris Mist). He told me that he installed a 65 console in the 68. I found an early picture of the interior. You can see how far the front of the console went. I think he may have used the 8 track heater vent to avoid the console hitting. the original vent. Also of interest is the old Sun Tach he installed (the drive for it was mounted on the firewall). Keen eyes will note the 67 hood tach. When he bought the car new (I have the original sales invoice) he had the dealer install a hood tach. They used the 67 style hood tach. Remember this car was delivered to him in November of 67. It was probably what they had in stock. I still have the 67 tach but car now has correct 68 style.

The standard vent extension has a lip on the drivers side that slips into the opening and then retained by a single screw on the passenger side.

I've had good luck with AMK. I don't know if they are always right, but they are very detailed on application and I bought from them a few times when I knew the fasteners weren't even close to original or I was missing parts completely.

They show something with flat washers in their 68 master body kit. It is labeled for the front bumper "stabilizer brackets". I'm not familiar with your assembly, so have no clue if these are correct but you may want to look if you haven't:

Looking at the bumper diagram below Items 2,4,5,6 are to mount the bumper to the frame(bar) bracket and the bumper stabilizer (support) bracket to the frame bracket.
AMK kit G-7424 for this, is almost correct.

The flat washers in the kit are to thin. AMK does have the correct washers (Pontiac #531315, AMK B-11286) however.
