Needed to change out the kick panel vent knobs. I had painted the old yellow plastic knobs with the chrome pen and it just wasn't getting it.
So I found a set of 4 for $20.00 on evilbay and got them.
So after looking for a way of removing them which some just destroy them, or remove the whole kick panel, or heat them, on this site I found out that the Chevelle guys use a pair of vice grips and use a small pry handle to force them off( See pics below)
They pry off and you could reuse them. Just clamp vice grips, leave room for pry tool you can get at harbour freight. Slowly pry a little at a time, moving the shaft with the vise grips so you are prying at different locations. Takes about 3 min. and they pop off in one piece. You could also reuse them though some of the shaft barb may take out diffent amounts of material and they may have to go on the same shaft. A little glue may be needed.
This is the same way you can take off the plastic heater control knobs and reuse them. Just protect the area where you pry against with cardboard so it doesn't mark up the heater control face.

Went to put new vent knobs on and pushed, rubber mallet and still couldn't get them on past the first barb. So I took a 3/16 drill bit, mounted upright in a vice and by hand turned out the hole in the plastic knob by hand turning the knob over the bit by hand to clean it out. Did this a couple times each knob.
Now they pushed on and about 10 hits with the rubber mallet and tapped it on.
Looks good. And they aren't coming off.
