No, I think it's strange that he and his wife and dog were all dead?

I heard one of his daughters suspect carbon monoxide poisoning, since the dog died too.

Gene Hackman was found fully clothed
in a different location than his wife.
He appeared to have suffered a fall.
His wife was found in the bathroom.
A space heater that was on a counter
in the bathroom may have fell and
hit her - three German shepherds
were also found - two were alive in
the kennel at the house - one was
dead inside the house.
There were pills scattered in the
kitchen and at least one bottle of
what appeared to be prescription
medication on a kitchen counter.
She had a bloated face and mummified
hands - the bodies suggested death
had occurred an few days earlier.

The gas company has been to the scene.
Carbon monoxide does not seem to be a contributing factor to the deaths at this time.

It’s weird because on one hand they think it’s carbon monoxide but then theres open pills found but then the dog was locked in the closet dead. What an odd situation gene found downstairs had a sudden fall wife elsewhere. So odd all of it

They've been dead for more than a week. Grounds keepers said they hadn't seen them for a couple weeks. The unusually cold weather in the past month would help preserve the bodies.

Does the gas company do autopsies?

Cause and manner of death will be come out of the ME's autopsy report.

An autopsy is required by law when it is determined to be a Coroners case. Coroners cases are homicides, suicides, accidents, ordered by the Coroner or Death investigator due to the totality of the circumstances, or basically they are dead and shouldn't be or no obvious reasons for their passing.

Matters not in this particular case and in the big scheme of things provided there is no foul play involved, which doesn't appear so.

So for those that are interested we'll get an ME report at some point, but it often takes weeks or even months to get the toxicology reports back as they send out quite a few samples to the lab for analysis and in a case like this it's likely they woln't finish/release the report till all that's done.......FWIW.....

For me I'm good with not knowing any more. He was a great actor and will long be remembered thru his contributions in the many films he was in......

Great actor...horrible situation. Agree with Cliff that I really don't need to know more...it won't change the outcome. However, in the unlikely event that it was criminal in nature and there is an outstanding perpetrator...follow-up is obviously required.

My wife has the wild theory that the wife put the dog in the closet, poisoned Gene and then committed suicide by pills. She has a vivid imagination.

Funny my Wife's first thought was that He had a Massive Heart attack coming inside, his wife found him and Committed Suicide.

But I agree with Cliff also. I can wait for the coroners. As it won't change anything. And unless they do find cause for Murder it is just a sad end to a great Actor his Wife, and Dog.

This may be a bit off, but at 95, how was his health? Mental or physical? Sad as it is to think, I wonder if she had a medical emergency, and was trying to get meds. Dog gets locked up by accident, and dies from no food or water. She dies in the bathroom from the emergency. He, possibly mentally slipping, has little sense of time. He doesn't take meds, as no one there to remind him. Walks outside looking for her the next day or several maybe, comes back inside and collapsed.

The above article goes into detail as her condition being in a relatively advanced state of decomposition, but not anything of his.

Default New info indicates that this was even weirder than anyone could imagine........

Coroner reports that Betsy died of 'hantavirus' about a week before Gene died of heart-related problems.

Also reporting that Gene was in the advanced stage of alzheimers, so he lived with her body in the house for that week, probably without even knowing she was dead. His stomach was empty when he died, so he hadn't eaten for a while. That could have exacerbated the heart issues.

Such a sad end to a remarkable life.....

Godspeed Gene and Betsy!!
