I have a front carb tag with a heart shaped punched out in the lower right. Does anyone know what it represents.?
7024178 M3 (Dec '63) Next Question, are original carb tags a 'thing' or are you just buying rerpros? |

The part number references a front carb for 389 tripower (AT/MT) (1964)
I would think someone somewhere may want it. Ironically, I just picked up complete tripower (no tags on carbs, but claimed to be original) the intake is dated January, but I'd have no idea what that means for when the carbs should have been made... |

The "punch out" is the inspectors sign for parts being ok.

Occasionally, I get a Tri-{power that has the correct tags on all three carbs. After 60+ years, however, this is rare. It is more common to see a Tri-Power with tags that do not match the carbs.
Most of you likely realize that tags can be put on any carb to suggest it is a real Tri-Power carb. Many of you are aware that the airhorns (carb tops) from 1959 through 1966 are all the same casting. The float bowls, carb tops, and bases from 1961 through 1965 are all the same, except for the automatic cars which had the hot idle compensator. (HIC) The end carbs are the same from 1959 through 1963. The 1964 through 1966 end carbs were end carbs were also the same. While the castings for various years and models were the same as described above, jetting, power valves, and idle circuits were different. depending on application. The 389 and 421 engines used the same Tri-Power carbs, but jetting, idle circuit, and power valves were different, depending on which horsepower engine it was.
