Default Anybody here currently riding or racing Moto-Cross ?

Looking to buy some new MX Boots , but not spend over $250 if possible.
Anyone have firstfoot experience with any under-brands that worked well ?
And want to stay with old school sewn sole , not the new age overmold tennis shoe type.

These are Forma , they used to make boots for Fox.
Can get these on clearance sale now for $180. Regular $300
Anyone tried these Forma Pilot FX

I had a pair of Fox Forma boots I bought in 2001 and they worked out fine.
Had a pair of Astars Tech8 Vented I bought used in 2007 - liked them too.
Got both pair out of long term storage this week and both pairs are ruined.
Cracked up like eggshells on all their plastics.

Alpinestar quit making Tech 8 boots about 5 years ago.
In 00-05 they were about $325-350
In 2020 they were around $600

Now all they have are rubber overmolded soles.
Tech 10 are $700-750
Tech 7 are around $500
Everything is overmolded and from used pairs I have seen on eBay - good footpegs chews them up real quickly.

My Fox Forma were around $250 retail in 01 , but got them on closeout clearance for $100.
Paid $100 for a pristine pair of Used Astars Tech 8 around 07.
Heartbreaker that both pairs are ruined now.

Bell Moto (5 or 7 , ?) Helmet special edition Yamaha of Troy model was around $200 on clearance in 01.
The firm inner foams have all gone pillow soft.
Another heartbreaker.

Had 3 pairs of Fox 360 pants size 32.
They don't fit too good anymore. lol
But they might fit again if I lose a few pounds around the beltline that need to go anyway.

Bought 2 new pair of Size 34 , Fox 360 pants. They are $200 now
One pair closeout at Dennis Kirk for $50
One pair hot deal on eBay for $50
The 180 series pants were going for around $35 closeout.

Bought a new Bell Moto 9 Helmet with MiPS on clearance for $72 @Dennis Kirk
Regular was around $350 , killer deal.
Kirk has killer deals on last years stuff from around mid Jan through March.
I think anything still left in April goes back to manufacturers , or a dumpster.

Getting my arsenal built back up.
Glad I was doing it during the clearance sales

I've found Gaerne boots to be best for me on comfort and durability. Only brand I've bought for 15 years. Probably hard to find some under 250. The fastback and gx1 line might be found for around 300.
I don't race mx any more. Just trails and dual sport.
I too like the bell helmets for the price.

Thanks for the feedback.
Have heard of and seen the Gaerne boots online.
But never known anyone in my area with any.
Their reviews echo what you said.

I'm not going to race , but will be on tracks on their open track days.
Just like hitting jumps and landing them.
No tricks or fancy moves.
Need good strong footbeds that can take impacts and not get chewed up by the footpegs.

Some friends tried to give me crap about the Fox boots when I bought them.
But they landed the big hits and I never had sore feet or ankles.
I only got to wear the Alpinestars a few times before I moved and quit riding.

At 61 I'm going to gear up heavier than I did at 40.
It was just boots and gloves back then.
Bought some new age knee and elbow guards CE2 level.
CE2 level Chest and Back protector, I mainly got it for the shoulder guard design.

Reminds me I need to break out my gear, haven't worn it in ten years. Been sealed up in bins, hopefully hasn't degraded.

Good luck Dataway.
Hope your stuff held up well .

I need to look into the best way to keep the boots and helmets stored for less degradation in between rides.
Guess my new helmet is slowly degrading even at the moment.

Had been doing some deep internet searches for any NOS Alpinestars Tech 8.
For over a week.
A lot of dead leads that were out of stock or had size 14 or 16.

Finally got lucky and found a dealer that was going out of business with one pair left.
Size 11 - new in the box. Made in late 2020 , last year of production.
Bingo
They sent verification pictures and I bought them.

White - Vented , with the inner booties included.
Coming out of Texas
