But the Cloyes timing chain was simple and awesome in the Boss Bird. It got way more abuse than normal:

valvesprings over 1000# open
exhaust valves opening against combustion pressure
driving a 26 gpm fuel pump
and driving an MSD 44 amp magneto (the magnets are so strong in these that you need an 8" wrench on the shaft to turn one "by hand")

How many of the fittings, on the timing cover, were used to oil the chain? I'm trying to determine which to use.

I put (2) small fittings in the high spots of our oil plumbing to bleed off air pockets. I ran them thru .030" NOS jets and -3 hose; then tapped the top of the timing cover to let the expelled oil drip onto the chain. Otherwise the chain had no special oiling provisions.

We ran the same chain for several years, then Cloyes wanted it back to inspect. It was still within the dimensional tolerance of a new chain and they made it into a tradeshow display.

Not my question either. This guy, Steve Morris is one of the best builders in the country. Does anyone know why he hates chains so much ? There has to be a reason and this guy puts his thoughts out there.
Maybe he likes belt drives and he can get them for all the other engines he builds.
But they are difficult for us. What would it take to get a belt drive to fit under out timing cover ?
Is there any advantage ?

I have a .023 hole in the driver side oil galley plug. I think it squirts it in the back of the top gear.
Some of it has got to make its way to the chain.

It would be nice if Cloyes made a .004-.005 short chain in the Z series.

Anyone have the part number for just the Cloyes Z chain ? Having a hard time finding it at Summit. I have a new set of gears from a .010 under set. Thought I might put a new Z chain with it for the next engine.

YW..... No idea if it's for a Chevy also. Part number came direct from Cloyes.

I do remember our Cloyes engineer saying the "Z" chain was available for our Pontiacs because it had another application. Some Chevy engine does seem to come to mind. Can't for the life of me remember which one.
