Default NOS Gold T-top

Finally got the last piece of the puzzle for my Y88.

Bought a NOS Gold Tinted T-top...Drivers side. Been waiting years hoping one would show up and it finally did. I bought the passenger side about 14 years ago.

All I have left to do is put the NOS Gold tinted glass into some frames and it will give me a back up set.

The Catalina was blocked in, so took my Mercury out today.
My son who was storing his ‘71 GTO in my garage, is moving up here to my neck of the woods, matter of fact his wife and my grandkids are staying at one of our rentals starting this weekend ( totally sick of the city living). So my son came and picked up his GTO that he was storing here, andmoved it over to my other son’s garage.
He has more room for spare cars over there.
Just too hot and humid here in SW Wisconsin to do any major cruising.

Cleaned my MR-1 block and got it ready to send to machine shop. Tomorrow I’ll work on my heads.

Went out between dawn and sunrise for her bi-monthly growl about the patch, waiting for the Portuguese license people to exdigitate.

Plastic hood scoops held on with double sided tape?

Yes, they are functional - ducted to the airbox. The previous engine was treated to functional cold air. Originally this was a cure to the marginal pinging of my 462/96 heads combo ala Jim Hand.

I wanted to keep it - if it is there, it better not be fake. I had a cross-plenum made earlier in a shop from an AutoCad drawing. It spans the under side of the hood and form a plenum under the holes fed from scoops.

I tried to do a lot this weekend and honestly failed miserably.

Wanted to get the 66 GTO out of storage but had to move the 87 Formula. Formula had a dead battery and the jump box wouldn’t do it so I had to jump it off the truck (they seem to need a little juice for the jump box to work).

Finally got the Formula started- then the GTO wouldn’t start and I didn’t have any starter fluid. Screw it- getting the Grand National out.

GN fires right up- then dies every 10 feet. Makes it just far enough to get stuck in the middle of the storage unit driveway. After 30 min of starting and dying I got it back in the storage unit. It’s either a bad battery connection or some internal problem with the battery.

Was gonna cut grass- it rained.

New light fixtures in loft of shop- mounting bracket broke.

New heater hoses on the 69 bird? Bought 5/8 instead of 3/4.

Finally settled on polishing some ‘61 hubcaps to put on the 58. Figured I couldn’t break those….

Hopefully my luck changes before I pick up the 58 from the body shop.

We did a little front bumper rehab on the Ventura. The bumper guards were smashed and rub strip had seen better days. Unfortunately the hardware for the bumper guards was rusted on so we had to take the whole bumper off to get the old guards off. I took the opportunity to mix up a little two part bumper epoxy in an effort to fix up the rub strip, especially in the middle on the front where it was cut from a previous impact. While we had the bumper off, Cole removed the filler panel and sanded it. I hit it with some flexible primer and some Fernmist Green out of a rattle can.

I started to take a look at what it would take to straighten out the driver's side headlight, but it would pretty require pulling the fender off so we'll save that for another day.

Went to a local cruise on Saturday. First non-drag race event for the car in probably a decade. Only about 4 miles away, but it was 89* out, only got up to 185*. Took a buddy from work, he never got into a car with a cage, and no swing out bars, but he did good.

Several of my friends made fun of me for using swing outs thirty years ago ..... Now they're converting to them

Took the Le Mans to Royal Crown Customs, a shop owned by R. C. Rose who is the son of one of my high auto shop school friends this morning. The intention was to get some oxygen sensor bungs welded into the headpipes.

I knew that this initial trip to the shop would almost certainly be for just marking the ideal location for the bungs. There’s really no good access to do a proper weld without removing the pipes, so now that they’re marked I’ll pull the pipes off and let him do the drilling and welding.

This was the first time I’ve ever had this car in a shop or on a lift so I took a few shots underneath before heading home to remove the pipes.

Getting the Le Mans off the lift to head back to my home shop, I’ll do an oil change and check the rear end gear oil level while I’m under the car working on the exhaust.

Magnetic drain plug didn’t have much of anything on it, oil changed at 420 miles and now at 1150, the initial break in oil was dumped while still on the run stand.

Got back from the 2025 GTOAA Nationals,, Where "The Mystery Indian" was a display car, got it out of the trailer and couldn't resist blasting through every gear (a few times) just what it loves to do (me too) before it went back into the garage until its next outing! We're Eyeing Paradise Drag Strip in Calhoun Georgia!

The low ceiling in my garage really isn’t right for a lift unfortunately.

My property isn’t spacious enough for a separate shop building so I have to do without, I really like my neighborhood and house so not interested in moving to acquire more shop space.

Removed the drivers side pipe and returned to the shop for a little welding, car is now back together and serviced so next time I’m there we’ll install the O2 sensor, evaluate the air/fuel mixture and go from there. From looking down the manifold end of the pipe and seeing black soot it’s definitely running on the rich side, R. C. confirmed that by just smelling the exhaust as I left his shop.

Took the ’70 Formula 400 out for its first drive with the rebuilt RAIII engine along with Dan driving his newly acquired 428 ’69 Catalina. Both did great in the 95 degree weather.

Getting ready to do a very small amount of paint work on my 67 GTO. Will wait until the temp drops below 90. Fortunately it is in a area that won't show....just need to do it before I put the front bumper fully in place.
