Default Engine turns hard

As some of you may remember I was putting a new starter in my car. Well I found that my SFI flex plate was junk so having several factory ones and not racing the car anymore I went that route. When I was under the car trying to turn the motor by hand I couldn't. in the past I used a screwdriver to turn an engine with the flywheel teeth. I could not turn it either with the screwdriver or with a wrench on the flywheel to crank bolts. I needed a prybar with about a 15-20 to 1 leverage ratio and then I could just barely move it 1 tooth at a time. I have never had an engine that was so hard to turn. The engine is a .030 over 428 with a Procharger and about 9.5 to 1 compression. It is over 20 years old (not a lot of miles), never runs hot and has 20+ psi oil pressure at idle. It runs great and makes no noises. Why could it turn over so hard?

I'm not sure how much effort it takes to turn the Procharger, but maybe having to turn both at once takes more effort, and possibly why the flex plate teeth were bad?

I think you need to prove out your electrical cranking system top to bottom and Just because there’s no noise is no guarantee that there’s no issue brewing.

I would cut the oil filter open to look at what it has collected and even if that looks normal send oil sample out for an analysis before I run it again .

The cost of doing the above is far cheaper the replacing parts and rebuilding the motor.

To be clear you were able to spin the motor with the screwdriver before the flex plate swap and now with a different flex plate you can't?

I know a roller cam and good springs will make it difficult to roll over, even with the plugs out.

Sign you got old.

You could pull all the plugs, and run a TQ wrench on the Front damper bolt to see the drag TQ. That removes guessing.

I would have to remove the crank pulley to be able to get at the crank bolt. I guess that would take the supercharger out of the equation.
