Hello I am new to this group. I have a 1969 GTO that I have owned for 23 years, I have the protecto plate and PHS docs for the car,it was built in October 68 and was ordered with factory cruise control. I have been in this hobby almost 30 years and have never seen another one. My question is does anyone here have any info on how many gto's left the factory in 69 with this option. Thanks in advance

I have seen it on GP's as far back as 1963 models, but those were more of a throttle hold, not really what I would consider cruise control. Does yours actually adjust the throttle position to maintain the desired speed on hills?

My ‘67 has cruise control. It’s the only one I’ve seen personally. So I consider it pretty rare. I had it operational with its original 2 barrel carb, but disconnected it when I switched to a 4 barrel.

I have never seen another one myself, I would assume it would be more popular on something like a 69 SJ, I'm also guessing its pretty rare on a GTO. If anyone here happens to have an idea or documents to support that it would be greatly appreciated

Basically that is its function, to hold the throttle at a certain position so you could rest your foot. It is however labeled cruise control on the build sheet, phs docs, and also early sales brochures. Also the turn signal lever is labeled "cruise" and has a button you push on the end.

The owners manual describes operation of the cruise control. Service and diagnostic manuals (chap 15 Accessories) go into greater detail. It isn't as versatile as a modern cruise control but still Sets, and Coasts to a new speed; all depending on how you press the button at the end of the turn signal stalk. Available on automatics only.
From the 68 owners manual.

Neat, Rare on 68-70 A- bodies. Seen a Factory Cruise on a 68 LeMans, but thatsa it.

Yeah pretty archaic design by today's standards but kinda cool on a 69, it seems pretty rare so still hoping someone can step in and help with actual production numbers, I'm guessing this is a low production option

Same here. I’m not sure if mine was ordered that way, or if they just ran a bunch of cars off with all of these options. It’s a late July ‘67 build. When I got the PHS, the option sheet was practically all red.

My 69 GTO has it, January build. I pulled it off. It was just the part on the fender, the cables, and harness by the time I got it.

The parts can be a challenge to gather if they’re not there. But they do come up. I saw a complete NOS in the factory box Pontiac Cruise Control package on EBay for about 2000.00 a year ago. I did score a NOS cruise turn signal lever for a spare.
My son is a real internet sleuth and he scored a NOS cruise control throttle lever (they call it a carb extension) for the Quadrajet. So we’ll be able to connect it again. |

Getting the whole dealer install kit is the way to ,go, it comes with everything, mine had 10 pages of prints to install. I kept the spedo cables which are impossible to find in a GM and a few other PCs, sold the rest off and broke even.

We have factory cruise in our 68 Firebird 400, works great. I also have an NOS GM cruise control kit, which I was going to list on eBay. I believe someone bought it for a '69 or '70 GTO, but not sure of the exact application or how complete it is.
